There is . .. .

This little annoying issue should be solved now, but please report if you find and other areas of the site which generates similar issues.

How to fix 'Function eregi() is deprecated' in PHP 5.3.0?
The issues that we had is related to used php function is deprecated and in our case it's both eregi() and split(); the quick fix for this is to replace eregi() with mb_eregi() and split() with explode(); at least it worked for the issues that we had.

Hardware / Solid State Drives (SSD)
2010.03.19, 10:52:22
Question regarding solid state drives; when checking Swedish site Prisjakt.nu (PriceHunter) for the most popular drives the list of the top 10 drives are:

  • Intel X25-M G2 80GB
  • Intel X25-V G2 40GB
  • Intel X25-M G2 160GB
  • Kingston SSDNow V Series SNV125-S2 64GB
  • OCZ Vertex Limited Edition SATA II 2.5" SSD 100GB
  • Kingston SSDNow V+ Series SNVP325-S2 128GB
  • Kingston SSDNow V Series SNV425-S2 64GB
  • Kingston SSDNow V+ Series SNVP325-S2 64GB
  • Kingston SSDNow V Series SNV425-S2 128GB
  • Kingston SSDNow V Series SNV125-S2 128GB

Guess that Intel shows great numbers for read access but the write access isn't that great compare to both Kingston and OZC, Corsair drives. But, what also makes the different if the drive has cache or not; drives without cache will often show terrible values during software installation.

So the question is quite simple; what is your experience regarding solid state drives in general and together with OS/2? I assume that a well optimized OS/2 would be able to boot quite fast using solid state drives...

Some of you might taken notice that some of the threads comes up with a blank screen when accessing them from the main index page; this is due to a bug in the bridge component we're using between Joomla (CMS) and SMF (forum). Until we managed to fix this little, but annoying, bug. Please access the forum directly without the Joomla wrapper using following link -> www.os2world.com/forum and you're able to access the "problematic" threads.

2009.06.21, 11:54:32

Hardware / SATA2 DDR2 HyperDrive5
2009.06.14, 01:12:42
While googling around for information about SDD-drives I stumbled over this SATA2 DDR2 HyperDrive5 that seems quite nice; just the specs speaks for it self: 175MB/s Read rate & 145MB/s Write rate. Does anyone have own experience of similar solutions or of SDD for that matter?

Hardware / WD Scorpio Blue vs Black disk
2009.06.13, 18:58:16
Does anyone have own experience when it comes to compare the WD Scorpio Blue (5400rpm) and Black (7200rpm) 2.5" disks? Reason for asking is that while the specs shows couple of differences, but when checking the difference of access time and latency of the disks I'm far from convinced if the Black is the drive to get or not...

What bounties should we merge and focus on and admit that there are bounties that isn't reachable... are there any other current OS2 development, tools, utilities that we can create bounties around and move fundings to?
#11
There are current two bounties related to security with the overall purpose to secure data on os2 systems; may I suggest that we join following bounties:  GemPlus PC400 driver support and  TrueCrypt port to either a 3rd option of encryption solution for OS2 or TrueCrypt if still valid option. By this we'll increase the bounty value and as well I will suggest that OS2WF will make additional sponsorship of this new updated bounty.

Security / Blue Lightening Virus
2008.12.10, 23:19:14
While virus isn't an issue for OS2 I'm curious about what viruses actually exist for OS2. Among other I'm quite sure that most of you have read that there exist at least one known virus for OS2 - created by IBM'ers to show that virus very well can survive in an OS2 environment. I don't know the name of this virus or if it's called Blue Lightening virus I found an document with discussion on OS2 as a virus platform.

Question if anyone else has some info on this topic?

General Discussion / Bounty Rules
2008.12.02, 20:40:19
May I suggest that we use this thread to discuss update of the existing bounty rules.

While I wasn't able to participate in this years Warpstock Europe I manage at least to make a one hour presentation at a local Open Source event here in Malmö, Sweden for a bunch of BSD, Linux and OSX people which I guess was quite impressed with what they saw of eCS. Quite a few did also ask for LiveCD or demo code to install to try it out a bit more for themself. Quite nice also that the youngest people at the presentation had never heard of OS/2 - way before pre-school and kinder garden era - and still very impressed with that they saw and for how long this technology has been available.

But, nice to get that such positive feedback as I did.

Ed would you mind that we post the instruction/article here at OS2 World to be able follow-up on problems and success stories people might have?

Innstalling the RC5 onto my T60 worked as a charm no errors and issues at all with network drivers, etc which I have had earlier RC-releases. Only thing that missing out is currently the support for the audio - anyone aware if there is something on the way to solve this. I did install the system with ALSA-drivers; but no luck there.

Found a little annoying when installing RC5 onto a Dell Inspiron 8600; I usually diversify the installations files and puts applications onto drive D: and when doing this the installations never gets through the point to install network dial-up tools. If I use the standard installation path which is drive C: then it installs as it should; but changing the installation path to drive D: the installation won't get pass above point.

Any one have this same little weird error?

It seems th. .. .

Well, Google translations works out good enough to make the article readable.

What primary interest me is that the GA is set to 2009. Guess that few of us had the hope to the upcoming Warpstock Europe.

Mail-News / Spicebird
2008.07.14, 19:59:23
Was looking around for a PIM or personal organizer utility; I then stumbled over Spicebird that is based on the Thunderbird code but offers quite a few other nice features such as contact, calendar, IM, etc.

Interesting project that might be possible to see available as well for OS2/eCS?
