Question to potential Warpstock attendees

What could Warpstock offer you that would make you want to attend?

http://www.warpstock.org

For 2008, we've cut the costs of attending Warpstock by holding it at a University.

Tell me anything that would make it worth going to Warpstock for you.

Without attendees, Warpstock will stop. We've got a fairly together program this year -- what do we need to do?

In addition to the above question.  Is there anywhere that we should be promoting Warpstock that we are not?
Are there any tech sites that would accept our news bits that while not OS/2 oriented might grab the attention of an OS/2 user that hasn't heard of Warpstock?

Hi Andy,

this is a very good and interesting topic. I've been thinking about that for quite some while and I am convinced that there are a lot of people / companies still using OS/2 on some machine while they probably so far never heard of eComStation and/or that this thing sis still alive.

To give you an example of how things can turn out if you find the right "spot" to place information:
A marketing consultant lately told me that he once had a customer who is running a travel agency that is specialized on doing Scandinavia trips. They always had put their ads into the usual places (travel stuff) and only got little response.
One day, they came up with the idea of doing their ads in a magazine that is specialized on *fishing* (a paper that covers nice places, special clothes, new "hardware" of course, tips & tricks...) and suddenly, they saw themselves drowning in requests for information and they were able to almost triple their revenues.

The bottom line is that I thought we should spread the news into places were OS/2 still is being used. Like (online-) magazines and/or (e)-papers for special industries? I cannot tell if that makes sense as I don't know what professional "markets" were covered by OS/2 software products. Automation? Measurement? Traffic? Who knows... and what are their information channels or media?
Perhaps that could help?

As for the basic question by BlondeGuy:
For Warpstock Europe we have set up a wishlist where potential attendees can suggest topics they would like to have presentations about. Once there is a submission to the wishlist, we try to dig out someone who could do a presentation about it. It does not always work and there is no guarantee that we can find someone and make it happen, but for last years WSE it already gave us 2 or 3 presentation topics... so it at least *somehow* worked.

Cheers,
Thomas

Hi Andy,

How are you and every one else over at Warpstock?

With regards to the above mentioned... one Tech Site that would "accept (I believe) the news bits" about Warpstock... is this one which I am quite familiar with (link attached below):

Perhaps the relevant Editor of the particular News Section of this site can be contacted with regards to the questions raised here.

Kindest regards.

We're trying to get everything rolling... there are only 4 more weeks for people to sign up.
Thank you for the suggestion, we'll try that one out.

It would be cool to get DL.TV to WarpStock.

Sounds interesting. What is DL.TV?

How about getting some of the preparation activities (interviews with the press, discussions...) for WarpStock 2008 "YOU-TUBED"... these along with video clips (if any) of previous WarpStock Events uploaded (if not already done) to "www.YouTube.com".  8)

Best regards.

Warpstock 2008 will feature presentations and classes in Wi-Fi technology, virtual machines, hard-disk managers, modern laptops, office software, and more; you can see the current detailed schedule.

How about some added "presentations" that would be of interest to "potential Warpstock attendees"!

SAB

Does someone not remember
Quotethe VOYAGER PROJECT

http://wiki.netlabs.org/index.php/Voyager_FAQ

!!!

Most certainly, a presentation on this project (since IBM from all appearances cannot release the OS/2 Source-Codes to the OS/2 community) ought to be one of the presentations slated for Warpstock 2008.  8)

We have previously solicited a presenter for Voyager, but no one has come forward. Several of our current presentations cover software likely to be included in Voyager, if and when Voyager is built.

I/we have got a keen interest in Warpstock 2008/Voyager so much so that we are envisaging (like in the cases of the Linux Distributions) an adoption of Voyager which we will Code-Name "CASSINI"; and, if this is possible we will offer if necessary an amount of $50.00 US for someone to present the "CASSINI Project" during a session at Warpstock 2008 on our behalf.  ;D

You can download the latest voyager presentation held at the developer workshop 2008 from netlabs.

I have had a couple of ideas cooking in my head for some time now.  I had thought about setting them down in future how-to web log entries at Metztli IT's  --once implemented of course.

One of those notions is regarding the enabling of OS/2 to join WS 2003's AD domain (not in legacy mode but through kerberos) using existing components made available by Smedley and others in the open source world.  This project/analysis will depend on the quality of the components available that can be used on OS/2.  During my limited time, I have managed to give it a "dry run" and the project shows promise.

The other one is about the potential deployment of OS/2 instances in OpenVZ --which is the free raw basis for Parallels Virtuozzo technology.  As is known, OpenVZ/Virtuozzo and Xen have enabled the proliferation of virtual private servers (VPS) in the Internet by lowering the cost of entry for individuals and organizations.

Regarding the latter, the virtualized small footprint of OS/2 would make it an ideal candidate for hosting any applications that require the standard OS/2 Apache MySQL and Perl-PHP-Python (OAMP) infrastructure --such as the b2evolution blog software that I blogged about in the past.  The potential OS/2 VPS machines might have the HPFS3861 file system for added security.

Would any of these two potential sessions increase the will of undecided Warpstock attendees to come to Santa Cruz, Califas  ????

1 Does anyone know who owns the license who might refuse to an HPFS386 potential mass distribution of the last implementation?

I have had a re-look at "the latest voyager presentation held at the developer workshop 2008 from Netlabs" and to be honest... after years and years of waiting on IBM, Microsoft as well as Serenity Systems International to deliver on OS-eComStation it it felt that it is about time that something to be done particularly now that the "housing, energy and food" situations are affecting so many around the world (who does not know about the "housing crisis" that many American families are faced with; and, where were the homes of our beloved Operating Systems  ??? Additionally, as we all know IBM has quite clearly stated in its response letter to the OS/2 World Foundation that it cannot release the Source-Codes for OS/2 to the community; and, so far the development of the Voyager Project in comparison to that of Linux is considered disappointing at best. Hence, the rationale for the possibly "bank" funded/supported Cassini Project that is intended to be a follow-up behind the OS/2 World Foundation's Petition Letter to IBM.  ;D ::) ;D

Also; where and if possible, the Cassini Project will attempt to bring on board the "world's best and brightest" to challenge the current Microsoft's "desktop" prowess in only a way OS/2-CASSINI can.  8)

Kindest regards.
