Hello,

Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong place but I'm not sure what category this strictly fits under.

For sheer curiosity and purely cosmetic reasons, is it possible to change the text that appears next to the white blob during the initial stages of booting?

Cheers  :)

What do you want to change it to?

To change from eCS to OS2 just change the os2krnl that comes with eCS to a standard OS/2 one.

Hi Dan

Yes, requires the use of a hex editor - there is a small choice here http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/h-search.php?key=hex+editor&pushbutton=Search - to locate and replace the text "OS/2" in the file OS2KRNL.

This file is normally has the readonly, system and hidden attributes set so you need to run the following command in a command window open in the root directory of the boot drive

ATTRIB - R -S -H OS2KRNL

Pete

eCS comes with BrandLDR.

[C:\]brandldr /?
BrandLDR <file> <string>
example: BrandLDR E:\OS2LDR "eCS 1.03"

Please be carefull doing this (and while free, giving such advise)! Don't edit the kernel with a binary editor unless you know what your doing.  We also have not removed the OS/2 strings out of the kernel.

Thanks for all of your replies. brandldr did the trick.

eCS comes with BrandLDR.

ISTR that not only the text, but also an attribute for each character is stored within OS2LDR. Thus it is possible to also change the fore- and background color of the message. Does BrandLDR support this as well ?
