The OS/2 Files

Main text

Consoles

From early arcade machines to Sega Master Gear. Now PacMan and Missile Command are brought back to life! Similar to computer emulators these programs need files with the ROM(-cartridges) content. To legally use these images with an emulator you have to own either the original ROM/ROM-cartridge or one the CDs containing ROM-images issued by the copyright owners. The only exception are the for emulator development and evaluation. In the latter case a time restriction of 24 hours for use seems to be ok.

All emulators listed here are available as native OS/2 programs!

Stella/2

Emulates the Atari VCS 2600 console (using DIVE under OS/2). This emulator can be obtained here for DOS, Windows, LINUX and the Mac.

Master Gear/2

Emulates Sega Master Gear, Sega Game Gear and now also SG1000 and SC3000.

ColEm/2

Emulates ColecoVision.

M.A.M.E.

Multi Arcade Machine Emulator: As you can already see from the name MAME emulates lots of different arcade machines, ranging from the old Pong to more up-to-date NeoGeo ones. The counter has meanwhile crossed the 1200 number. Vintagegaming holds M.A.M.E. versions for most more or less modern operating systems. So far Marty Amodeo has done a great job in bringing M.A.M.E. to OS/2 and actively mainting it.

Retrocade

This program has been designed to do basically the same as M.A.M.E.. Currently it supports only a small subset of the games M.A.M.E. supports, but then it's blazingly fast with lots of the code written in assembler for speed optimization. Now Martin Amodeo has made available a new version that uses Scitech's MGL library for even more speed and fullscreen display.

snes9x

Another new emulator ported by Martin Amodeo. snes9x emulates the Super Nintendo console and utilizes Scitech's MGL library for special screen modes and high speed. Meanwhile snes9x supports display in both window (via DIVE) and fullscreen (via MGL).
