Moneydance vs. Moneyplex in future?! (Posted by Joerg Sievers) (js)

Since 12/29/1999 is Moneydance available in version 2.0.4, a Java-based 'Quicken'-pendant (you can im-/export Quicken-files) but at the moment without a onlinebanking-modul. Moneydance is available in different languages and very useful to view your accounts 'offline'. Yes, it is a Java-application but it is fast enough running on my P166/64-machine and has some interesting features (also in development):

Transaction auto-completion
Transaction search
Check Printing (regular checks, or checks with stubs)
Multiple currencies (you can even define your own!)
Support for multiple accounts and true double-entry
An easy to use checkbook register-style interface with many shortcuts
Custom 3D and 2D graphing with ability to print or export to GIF files
Report generator with export to HTML and printing capabilities
QIF (Quicken Interchange Format) file import and export
Cleared vs. actual account balances updated as you work
Multiple languages (Italian, German, French, Brazilian/Portuguese, UK and US English) and number/date formats
Scheduled transactions and reminders
Reconciliation tool to simplify checkbook balancing
Automatic notification when upgrades are available
Extensive transaction sorting options
Support for multiple dates per transaction
Support for split transactions
Currency fields support math expressions, and automatic currency translation

Some features in development:

Online banking
Budget management and tracking
Stock portfolio and investment management
Online portfolio updates

Maybe it is for the authors important to know that the Europeans need HBCI (Home Banking Computer Interface) as an implementation for online-banking because the traditional way through CEPT (aka 'BTX' or 'T-Online Classic') will be closed with the end of 2001 in Germany (I don't know what is going on with the France system which is nearly the same?). In the newsgroups some users said that the authors replied very fast to their mails and if they will to make online-banking possible in Moneydance we can get a really cheap shareware-application (US$ 30 through BMT Micro)! I am looking forward to another program in this software-section because it should not be the truth in future that the end of Moneyplex is the end of online-banking in Europe (esp. Germany) on OS/2!
