Displaying Japanese Fonts on OS/2
« on: November 23, 2016, 10:33:08 pm »
Hi

I don't understand Japanese or have any intentions to learn it, but the other day I was trying some Japanese OS/2 software on my OS/2 VM and the characters does not display right. (Check attachment)

When I installed eCS on this VM I selected to install all the fonts, but it seems that something else is missing.

Any tips on how to make Japanese fonts to be displayed fine on the english OS/2 ?

Regards

I think ideally you need a DBCS OS/2 system. Have you tried changing the codepage? I'll note that Japanese fonts seem to display fine with Mozilla apps, especially the newer releases that use the real fontconfig.

Hi.
config.sys > CODEPAGE=850,932
reboot
soft's Properties > Language > Codepage > 932
System Setup > Appearance > eStyler Preferences > Titlebar > Font >Times New Roman MT 30

Please specify Times New Roman MT 30 if you can set the font softly.
If it can not be specified, drag and drop from the font palette.

However, you have unusual software.
I have only heard of the name.

Thanks for the replies.

I had:
1) Added CODEPAGE=850,932 on config.sys (reboot)
2) Changed Properties of the program's Language (check picture)
3) Changed the properties of eStyler "System Setup > Appearance > eStyler Preferences > Titlebar > Font >Times New Roman MT 30"

But the result is the same.

On the program's language I had set "932" and I had tried:
- User the default locale
- ja_JP
- ja_JPu
None seems to show any changes on the application fonts.

Maybe I'm missing something more.

I tried I different Japanese app and try it selecting the two diferent codepages on program settings.

I see a change from pic1 (932) to pic2 (850) , but it does not work yet. Maybe I'm missing the JP fonts.

....but wait... I just noticed that the window tittle looks in japanese fonts. ... a step forward :)

Please also set the following.
eStyler Preferences > Dialogs > Font >Times New Roman MT 30"

By the way, is not the menu displayed in Japanese?

Later, I can only imagine adding Mincho to the font.
(ex) rename Times New Roman MT 30 to Mincho and add it.

When using a different CODEPAGE setting, also a useful COUNTRY setting should be done. The better option is of course to install a DBCS OS/2 version inside a VM.
