ArcaOS 5.0 on an Aspire One Computer.
« on: October 01, 2017, 12:18:27 am »
I finally got around to trying the ArcaOS 5.0 operating system. It is on an Aspire One D255E with an Intel Atom N455 (1.6 ghz) with 512 KB cache, 1 GB DDR3 memory, 250 GB HDD, and a 6 cell Li-On battery. It has sound. I can use an USB mouse. I don't think it sees / detects the wifi port.

I tried to change the wallpaper but I have yet to find where it is that changes it.

With eCS, it did not see a flash drive that was attached. I will see if it does or does not.

I am so glad it works with it. The next step is to tweak it. Perhaps upgrade to 5.01? I will try different software with it. It can use the USB optical drive.

I am one happy nerdy camper.

Hi

Please post back the pci.exe report like : "pci.exe > pciout.txt" so I can post it on the OS2World wiki. Also with the wifi hardwareId we can get a hint if the card is supported in some way.

Regards

format a flash drive?
« Reply #4 on: October 07, 2017, 06:16:21 am »
I did the 'pci.exe < pciout.txt' thing. Now I am trying to get it to a flash drive to post here. It sees the flash drive but says it is not formatted correctly. It has been awhile since I formatted a flash drive in OS/2 - eCS. I am looking in ArcaOS to where it is done. A little help in how it is done is appreciated.

Easiest is to download DFSee and use that. It has a script in one of the right hand menus to create a FAT32 formatted flash drive.

Format works the same as format on normal drives. You need to use (mini)LVM to add the LVM signature, and add a volume, then RMB on the icon, and select Format. Follow the directions. FAT32 is also supported in this way, when you have the new FAT32 driver installed.

I found a site that has a review of the Acer Aspire One.
http://www.notebookreview.com/notebookreview/acer-aspire-one-review/
It seems similar to what I have. The article as information / specs on the laptop.
