Lexmark CS510DE laser color printer success
« on: October 02, 2017, 10:02:01 pm »
Hi,

I could install and use Lexmark laser color printer from under ArcaOs, firefox and Openoffice

I changed my old HP printer for a nex lexmark CS510DE laser color printer I could find for a very low price
( less than 170€ original tonner cartriged included able to print about 6000 black pages or 4000 color pages )
I installed it in my local network.
I downloaded CUPS package from lexmark web site
The the cups package, I copied Lexmark_CS510_Series.ppd from under "GlobalPPD_1.4" folder included under the package into
.\usr\share\cups\model

Edit Lexmark_CS510_Series.ppd and remove line :
*cupsFilter: "application/vnd.cups-postscript 0 /usr/lib/cups/filter/fax-pnh-filter"
(this line generates an error and it makes the printer not work)
onces it is removed, save the file.

Now, use "Install CUPS Printer" wizard tool.
If the CS510 printer isn't under Lexmark entry, select  "Other printer" and then select the above PPD file.
Be sure your printer is network connected and ready. Note its IP@ ( select a static ip@ if you are going through a DHCP server under which you can reserve a static ip@ range )
Next step are as usual, use socket which is the default
From under CUPS administration, printers, you can print a test page.

Be carrefull :
To print with the correct font size, change printer setting from 4800 colors to 1200dpi (1200ppp) and all is right then as well under CUPS. Duplex works too
Very nice printer ( good price on amazon )
