Hi Joop,

Do you know of a java program that gives rise and set times for the moon from a set position?  It might be part of one that also gives sunrise and sunset.

Just happened to be visiting acme.com and noticed this, http://acme.com/java/software/Phoon.html, only phases of the Moon though.
There is no Java program to download, only X11. The only thing I found was a listing, but you need to compile that and I don't think its complete.

I have updated the pages http://joopn.home.xs4all.nl/os2ecs/ecs6e46.htm, Dutch http://joopn.home.xs4all.nl/os2ecs/ecs6n46.htm and the pages http://joopn.home.xs4all.nl/os2ecs/ecs6e47.htm, Dutch http://joopn.home.xs4all.nl/os2ecs/ecs6n47.htm. Reason the update on Yapbam with the translation to Dutch, see some topic before.
Because of the question from Ivan I found that NVJ was behind and the link not working anymore. Found that its moved to another host. You can find my updated pages about NVJ here http://joopn.home.xs4all.nl/os2ecs/ecs6e39.htm and in Dutch http://joopn.home.xs4all.nl/os2ecs/ecs6n39.htm. NVJ has grown up to 18Mb, takes some time to load on my machine. Version is now 5.2.
If you go to http://joopn.home.xs4all.nl/os2ecs/ecs6e.htm or in Dutch http://joopn.home.xs4all.nl/os2ecs/ecs6n.htm you can see with the red dots before the section which section is updated. If you go to that section you can see again with the red dots what program is updated. The java section is now grown to 139 pages, one gap (the slot for iTrain) and the two pages above makes a total of 136 programs :o and counting  ;D 8)
Have a good and healthy 2020 and have fun!
Joop

Hi Joop,

Thanks for the info on Night Vision.  It loads quickly on my Ryzen based main computer and benefits from the 28 inch 1920x1200 monitor.

I have updated the pages http://joopn.home.xs4all.nl/os2ecs/ecs6e23.htm and in Dutch http://joopn.home.xs4all.nl/os2ecs/ecs6n23.htm. Its about CalibrationAider, the files can't be downloaded anymore from the original site, looks like that is hacked and show something totally different. as I have the file I included it in the distribution.

I added yesterday a new Java program, its called JDiskReport. Thanks to Martin I got a file which did not show errors with unzipping. The program gives you a picture about your drives, how many files and with what age, when used etc. You can find the program here http://joopn.home.xs4all.nl/os2ecs/ecs6e140.htm or in Dutch http://joopn.home.xs4all.nl/os2ecs/ecs6n140.htm. New versions of the program needs a higher version of Java.

It looks like this;

Looking around in the jar file for the possibility of translating it to Dutch I couldn't resist this joke;

Have fun!

I added yesterday the program "AllDay". Its a calendar with two options for color. That's it. It seems to pickup the right names for the months and abbreviations for the day. The program itself is English and there is no information if more languages can exist next to each other, only that you can translate it, but that could mean it is English, or its an other language. Comments could be "we have already such a program for OS/2". Yes I know, but this one shows different.
You can find it here http://joopn.home.xs4all.nl/os2ecs/ecs6e141.htm or in Dutch http://joopn.home.xs4all.nl/os2ecs/ecs6n141.htm.

This is what you get;

Have fun!

I have added yesterday to my site the Java program NumericalChameleon. It convert units. Most options do work, but due to differences in Java systems help doesn't work because the browser can't be found. However updating exchange_rates works. Its a huge program with lots of conversions and I didn't try them all. You can find the page here http://joopn.home.xs4all.nl/os2ecs/ecs6e142.htm or in Dutch http://joopn.home.xs4all.nl/os2ecs/ecs6n142.htm.

The program looks like this;

Hi joops, I had liked to try some of your application and took the chance to install Open JDK 1.6.0 b27 GA, founding a wpi installer here: https://hobbes.nmsu.edu/download/pub/java/system/openjdk6b27ga5.wpi
The installation went appearently well, I could set all the prerequisites wanted and listed in the installer warning, otherwise it refused to go on.  At the end the installer said that config.sys was modified, and a restart was required.
On restarting I found a new Open JDK folder on the desktop, and a new JAVA13 folder was created in the volume root tree, while a JAVA11 folder was already there, I believe belonging to the original system installation. So I manually deleted all the JAVA11 calls in the config.sys, just leaving the new JAVA13 ones.
Then I downloaded the JdiskReport app folder and run jdr.cmd file, nothing happened.  Opened the jdiskreport-bugs.txt file I read : "the name java is not recognized as an internal-external command, operable program or batch file"
Can you please help me in understanding what is going wrong?
Thank you much

Hi mauro,

I always use a program object to start any java program.  An example for the Java Night Vision (planetarium program) is attached below. The -Duser.home is used to tell the program to write it's information to the program dir rather than the java dir.

Hi mauro

Installing Open JDK 1.6.0 b27 GA should *not* create anything to do with java13x folders or config.sys lines unless the wpi package modifies existing config.sys java131 lines for some reason.

To Uninstall java11 open Computer -> Install/Remove -> Installed Features and uninstall java11.

I also use an object to start jdiskreport, Properties page displayed below.

Regards

Pete

@Mauro, thanks for visiting my pages. The beauty of OS/2 is that you can solve problems in many ways, unlike other systems you are not forced to one solution.
On the bottom of the page you can download a file with a command file and an OS/2 icon. I didn't read that you did that.
I will show you my file (not the one enclosed on the page)
@echo off
set BEGINLIBPATH=d:\JAVA\JAVA160ga5\bin
set path=d:\JAVA\JAVA160ga5\bin
I:
cd I:\UTILS\jdiskreport
java -Duser.home=I:\UTILS\jdiskreport -jar jdiskreport-1.3.1_os2.jar 2>jdiskreport-bugs.txt

As you can see its very simple. I downloaded the zip files and don't install Java, I just unzip the zip file in a directory. I just make a new directory, in this case JAVA160ga5. It resides in the directory JAVA because I have all installed next to each other. It doesn't bite so to speak. The reason I did this is that I can change Java installation in a moment. In this way I test programs.

So the important thing to have is set BEGINLIBPATH and set PATH. Both have to point to the JAVA bin directory. I don't have anything in config.sys, only Java 11 which was from the original installation and is still there.
Next is to switch to the right directory with the program. So first I set the disk to i:. Next I set to \utils\jdiskreport.
In the line with java.... you can omit -Duser.home and you can omit 2>.....
Whats left is java -jar jdiskreport-1.3.1_os2.jar. That's all!
But this is with a command file, as you can read from others, other solutions. That's the nice thing with OS/2.

To give you an example how extreme this is, I just change 2 characters in the whole setup for testing with JAVA160ga4.

Hope it helps,
Joop

Joop, Pete, Ivan, I could clear most of the things thanks to your indications :

@Joop: I initially misunderstood the instructions for using the applications on your pages. By reading too quick, my attention was limited to the file which contained the .cmd file and I was trying to run that file alone, also misleaded by the fact that I could not download the other one containing the real .jar executable object because a user+password is asked to access that file. Is that intentionally protected?
After this I moved on a couple of other java applications (Alle Day / ImageEditor) and I saw that they work just by choosing Open JDK item in the context menu of the .jar file , no need of object properties editing !

@Pete-Ivan: I've then found that both C:\java11 and C:\java13 folders were the initial java utilities folder installed within the system. The Open JDK 6 installation is in the new C:\APPS\OpenJDK folder . Also no need to uninstall them, as for running all java executables apps with the latest installed Open JDK version I just linked by default .JAR extention to Open JDK using Assoedit utility (menu "associate execution by filter") and now a doubleclick on the .jar app object does all the job   :D

Joop, I like much the java apps on your pages, do you think that a free word processor at the level (o nearly) of Open Office will appear there in the future?

Thank you

Joop

Thanks for the feed-back. I don't know what did go wrong. I use some kind of standard page setup and just fill in the text. That's done for page 1 to 140 (and counting ::)). So first I thought something did wrong in my setup, a failure which sneaky did get in, but no. Did compare with other pages, setup the same. Then I thought I had hit the limit on my space, but according FM/2 I have still one 1Gb left. I could not download the file. So strait to my account, file is there. But could not download it. So I uploaded the one on my harddrive (If anything happen I can replace my homepage immediately) to my account. Did start FF again and finally I could download the file. Beats me what did go wrong, can't find it. But if others have similar results with downloading, please report. Also report if a link to a file seems broken. Sometimes the source moves to other places.

If my pages are not understood or to difficult or something, please report. And please do tell me what's wrong. My native is Dutch and I setup the pages first in English and then translate them to Dutch  ;D. I have the feeling I did a decent job but...

Now your question of the word processor, problem 1 is that we still at OpenJDK 6. Problem 2, not all seems pure Java, sometimes specific files for Windows, Linux or Apple are included. In other words I have to compile a new dll if there is source for that file which is not always the case.  To make it worse.. having a dll, it is not said that it will work as code might be hard coded for those three. That brings me to problem 3, we don't have Eclipse. But the good thing is that I now know where to look for, but coming to problem 1, don't expect fancy things as Word was back then also not the level of today and "wordy"-things most times protected Microsoft stuff, so not to be included in a nice Java program.

Hi mauro.

If I don't recall it wrong, OS2site.com has a security check when you are not using an OS/2 browser. You can ask Ian Manners to give you an account.
