Is Thinkpad R51 supported by OS/2 Warp 4.52 or eComStation 2.1?
« on: October 24, 2018, 10:09:39 am »
Hello, I was wondering if the Thinkpad R51 is fully supported by OS/2 Warp 4.52 or eComStation 2.1

For example, can I use another video driver apart from VESA? Is there audio support?

I'd like to do some light D.O.S. gaming, like, for example, One Unit Whole Blood by Monolith Productions, but also want to use OS/2 or eComStation as my main system

I can choose between a R51 or a T40

R51 was never supported. But some models are technically similar to T41/T42 so it should work to some degree. Video support should not be a problem. Depending on model/type there are 3 different chipsets which should work with latest SNAP or earlier IBM supplied drivers.

I hope you looked in the Wiki

https://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php/IBM_ThinkPad_T40

The T40 is likely to be fully supported by Warp 4.52. It's a good choice. Obviously this antique will be slower than more modern laptops, but hardware support suffers a little bit with each generation after T43.

I looked at the wiki and knew the T40 is fully supported, but the one I could have bought was not in very good aesthetic condition (there are parts available on eBay, but it would take ages for these to arrive to Argentina, from 2 to 3 months, Argentine Mail is very slow), so I chose the R51 which was available in my country

I've done some googling and found out a few people managed to install eComStation on the R51

I'll report back when I get the R51
