Fastest tcp/ip throughput in OS/2?

Yeah...as simple as it sounds, what are the fastest TCP/IP rates you are seeing in Firefox (or Seamonkey I suppose) in OS/2? (u/l and d/l)

The reason I ask: I recently upgraded to a Gigabit Fibre to Home setup. Previously was using a Fibre to Box and Coax to home and that was getting me a 125 Mbps, which was steadily supplied and no complaints on my OS/2 machine (other then the initial trouble I had, but that was a cable issue).

Well, now with the full Gigabit (confirmed with a modem speed test itself) I am just barely hitting 140Mbps in OS/2 (testing on https://www.speedtest.net/) while the Win7 box is hitting 340 Mbps (yeah, it sucks, my crappy Netgear X6 R8000 router is a POS, advertised as Gigabit, but hell no...nowhere near). This is on a hard-wire side, not even talking WiFi.

If you are hitting higher speeds, what are your setups? I'm using the MMRE 1.1.3 drivers here which drive the motherboard NIC (RealTek 8139C+/8169/8169S/8110S/8168/8111/8101E family).

I can get 112mb/sec on Windows and 42 mb/sec on Arca with the latest drivers.  Mostly seem to slow down due to CPU overload with all the ads on lots of sites.   I have a dual core athalon A6-7470 and better CPU's on Windows due to it's need for faster hardware to perform.  I do have latest Arca MultiMac drivers, but haven't tried any special editing of files.  Hope this helps.

I only have a subscription for max 50 Mbps. That's enough for me.
Under Windows, eCS / ArcaOS and Ubuntu, I'm exactly as fast on all systems. I come to 52 Mbps.
On Windows, I have an Intel I217-LM chip on board.
Under eCS 2.2 and ArcaOS I have a RTL 8169S-32 card.
Under Ubuntu I have a RTL 8111.
Under eCS I have the driver "Realtek 8111/8168/8169 (MultiMac32-R8169)" (R8169.OS2 Sep 2015). Under ArcaOS I have the driver Realtek 8139C + / 8169 / 8169S ... (MultiMac32-MMRE)" (MMRE.OS2 Oct 2017).

Mr. Walsh. You may want to try an add blocking Hosts file. The site  http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm is Windows oriented but the plain text version at http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.txt may be used directly.

Your hosts file should be found at x:\mptn\etc\hosts, where "x" is your boot drive. If you have not modified your hosts file you can just back it up to, say, "hosts.bak" and replace it with the downloaded file. It is a commented text file. Not only does it block lots of ads (adverts) it also blocks many malware sites. The file at the site is updated regularly.

I can see no difference when running and testing with either Windows or AcraOS.

Make sure the hosts.txt file is renamed "hosts" with no extension. I should have made that clear. Also, if you have modified your hosts file add the changes to the beginning just before the line "# [Start of entries generated by MVPS HOSTS]".  Most people don't modify their hosts file, but it can be handy to give names to computers and printers on your local network, or on the Internet for that matter.

Well, I just did a test out of curiosity, and it gave me a surprising result. ARCAOS503 of 373.2mbps. And with the host file proposed by Daniel modifying the line # :: 1 localhost # [IPv6] with #. It has given me 410mbps.
I'm not sure but maybe it could be the config.sys, putting the IFS before the device = network driver. In my case DEVICE = H: \ IBMCOM \ MACS \ E1000B.OS2

Adding the ad and malware blocking hosts file shouldn't increase your download speed (as far as I know), but it decreases the size of downloads. This speeds up page loading. Some sites show no change. With others the change is just short of miraculous. YMMV

Do you have Injoy firewall ?
If yes, get the latest driver from them (they found and rewrote the driver after I opened a ticket to them), it resolved my speed problem under ArcaOS.
Which firefow build do you use ?
Try to use a direct speedtest without firefox (I think you already did it).

You can give a try to the Realtek 8139C + / 8169 / 8169S driver too which If I did well understand uses a more "optimized process" than MMRE.

Guys,

Regarding the original content...I am not running anything else on my tcpip config, such as Injoy, etc.

To establish a better comparison point I will try to run with the native RealTek drivers, got a few versions kicking around here.

Another point noting, came to find out that my fancy 'Gigabit Fibre' connection only happens to peak at some 450mbps on the 1Gig LAN port side of the ISP's modem (Bell Home Hub 3000). Clearly this is not right, I am not getting the usable 1Gig. Having said that, the technician who came in to do the troubleshooting did acknowledge that they are having problems with Huawei hardware, specifically the ONT connection and the main-line splitter. Apparently the Alcatel hardware on the other hand does not have these problems and regularly hits the max speeds.

MMRE uses ""Receive Lookahead" transfer mode to the protocol while R8169.OS2 uses "ReceiveChain" transfer mode
May be this could impact max speed...

The send and recv windows are at max size, the only thing I did not adjust is the LIPC stuff...not sure what it is and initial search strangely did not return matching hits. I haven't gotten around to reviewing it again since the last time I did some of that tunning (when I originally moved from DSL to the Fibre125 mbps ISP.

I will tell you this, I switched to the "Realtek Gigabit 8111/8168/8169 driver (MultiMac32-R8169) for OS/2" drivers for my NIC. Having tested multiple times I am no longer seeing a TRAP in AFINET that I was seeing with the MMRE drivers. The TRAP would only happen during the upload part of the test, at speeds I was not seeing in the past (about 150 mbps). Will monitor this further because if the driver itself is the cause I will put in a ticket with AN and hopefully this gets some attention.

At eCS times, "sack" was always set to zero. I am fairly sure it should still be this way as the feature was broken and nobody has touched AFINETK.SYS since.

And that said, that's the likely reason for the TRAP in AFINETK.SYS that you are experiencing
(make sure you use SOCKETSK.SYS and AFINETK.SYS and not SOCKETS.SYS and AFINET.SYS !)
