os2site.com access
« on: May 26, 2019, 03:59:25 am »
The official libc05 is here, (use an OS/2 browser) http://www.os2site.com/sw/dev/gcc/old/libc-0.5.1.exe.

A number of people have for one reason or another no access to os2site.com, so it is not a recommended source

Here is an alternative that does not rely on difficult to get login rights

The one reason I can think of is using a non OS/2 browser/system. If you need to access this site from another system I think it's enough to switch the user agent.

What are the other reasons?

Not difficult, on the front page of os2site.com ==> "Authentication is required to access the data section. See the READ ME link in the top left corner."

Feel free to ask me and I will provide you with a username and password.

I literally do not know, you should ask Ian why some requests do not get answered.

I do not think there is a single request I have not answered as the purpose of the verified access is to simply stop my server being swamped by search engines, bots and serial machine gun downloaders.

The only reason I would not answer a request, is if I have not received one. Reasons I may not receive one:

There are some IP ranges that are blacklisted at the firewall, mainly Russia, Ukraine, and some others from M247, all of whom are rampart form spammers and ignore abuse reports. Other IP's blacklisted are torr gateways because I'm sick of the attacks and abuse.
The only email server IP's blacklisted are in general RBL's, plus a lot of Syria, Turkey, Africa and Brazil. LeaseWeb in the Netherlands have a few blacklisted IP ranges as they ignore spam and abuse reports (as far as I can make out, they ignore any form of communication unless you are in The Netherlands). The web form works fine for these.

I have had a couple of people submit requests by my webform that I have not been able to reply to over the years due to an incorrect email address given but otherwise if it's a name I recognize, such as yours, I would contact you by other means.

Yes, I agree with Andi. Using an other OS then OS2 identified OS results into an authentication request
ex: Windows not allowed
OS/2, eCS, ArcaOS allowed

os2site.com is a very nice and usefull site.

"server not found" here...

tracerte gives:

Code: [Select]
[G:\]tracerte os2site.com
tracerte: unknown host os2site.com

Doesn't work for me too, site can't be found. Sad. Imo, it looks like there is no connection, so no pages, no information how to get on the side if you have to register there. Looks like a wrong setup. And its very logic that no one get through with comments or questions if you don't even get there. So, there is some work to do. If not, pull the plug, waist of energy.

Hi

I wrote an email to Ian last week. He is having connection issues in his area in Australia. His server and himself has internet limitation right now and sadly he had no estimated date to solve this problem.

I hope that Ian can eventually connect and tells us more about this issue.

Hi All,

Yes, I'm having internet problems, as in none :(
It is looking like it will not be up for a while as I suspect the wholesaler of australian HFC service will nolonger attend site due to social distancing. I'm not qualified to replace a NTD (HFC modem) apparently :o)

Roderick has offered to host the website and I have sent him an SSD - the hosting will be without the need for authentication for site access.

If anyone else is interested I can be reached at ian at os2site dot com <== moved email to a hosting provider.
Hope you all keep well.

Glad to hear you're fine in these weird times. Having a mirror is good as well.

Have internet access again with a permant IP but it is slower than our current 3G access, probably due to the lockdown and everyone trying to work from home as we are on a HFC segment with 97 connections. I will move DNS around after my Wednesday exam and turn the server back on, Wednesday is a window that might be as long as Friday, I'm still trying to get Zoom working for Uni (cant get past the capture under Linux or Windows), do the shopping and study while feeling old all at the same time.

I think once one or more mirrors are organised, my server will be purely email and rsync replication. It's all getting to hard :(

The os2site.com is live. Ian send me a hard disc from Australia and OS/2 VOICE now hosts a copy of the website.
Ian and I are working out the details so he can update th website from Australia. So from that perspective things should be somewhat back to normal.
