ioctl (siocaifaddr): Invalid Argument Error ---Help!
« on: June 19, 2019, 07:01:02 pm »
I've gotten this error on two different machines with ArcaOS 5.0.3 while changing the I.P: for use on my Lan. The I.P changes correctly and all is well, but on rebooting I always get the same error. I've been unable to figure out how to get rid of this error (it actually causes no problems, except for the halt it causes during booting) which is a PITA!
Any ideas would really be appreciated.  Thanks

klipp

Hi klipp,

Could be something in your x:\MPTN\BIN\SETUP.CMD file.
If memory serves, that error is ifconfig related, run any ifconfig lines from your setup.cmd file and see which one errors, or post your setup.cmd file.

I was also thinking about 'x:\MPTN\BIN\MPTSTART.CMD' but think it more relevant to start with setup.cmd
Cheers

99% certain this is caused by tcpcfg2.cmd and adding a default route.
tcpcfg2.cmd adds two lines to setup.cmd.

The first command  with the
"Route add default" with an IP addres should be kept.
The second line you can delete and in my experience is not needed.

The SIOCAIFADDR error indicates that the system failed in adding an alias address (for an existing IP address).
I assume that you did not try to specify an alias for an IP address, and that makes it likely that you have a syntax error in SETUP.CMD, as Roderick has also pointed out.

If you post your SETUP.CMD it should be possible to fix this error.
