I'll respond to some of the other posts later, but I figured out why 5.0 was trapping...

VERY lightly tested https://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-5.0.21-20201231.zip
& https://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-5.1.21-20201231.zip
& https://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-5.2.21-20201231.zip

Hi, Paul
5.1.21 and 5.2.21  work ok on my  CA0106    (5.0.21  did not test  yet)

Good news! No need to test 5.0.21 given the newer ones work.

Hi LArs,

can you produce a MAP file during the build process and ideally also intermixed assembler/c source files (MS called these .cod files)? Watcom solution to the latter is wdis.exe with the /s switch, I don't know if gcc has something comparable.
That will greatly help in identifying the exact trap location in the c source code and also typically the root cause of the trap.

Uniaud is built with Watcom - and map files are included in the distros since a week or so ago. I've never had luck with the wdis /s switch - I must try get that working....

Hi Roberto,

5.0.21 and 5.1.21 start but no sound
5.2.21 no start, no trap.

So 5.2.21 hangs at startup?

Hi Dave,
All 3 of the 5.x versions could boot, but 5.1 gave a TrapE 1 time (couldn't get it to repeat, but have the dump if you want it). No sound most of the time with any of them, except 1 time 5.2 booted with loud sound and system sounds occurring late. In every case PMUnimix showed only 3 controls.

No need for a dump from 5.1- the focus is on getting to 5.4. The PMUnimix case is interesting - I'll investigate that when I get a moment.

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Martin,

Ohh.. version 5... we are getting close.

https://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-5.2.21-20201231.zip

I tried "5.2.21-20201231" on the ArcaOS 5.0.6 VM on W10 host on the TP Yoga 14.
No Trap. It produce sound, but I lost control of the master volume tool.

My thinking is that this:
Code: [Select]
Control ID: 1
Interface: global control
Device(client): 0, subdevice (substream) 0
Name: []
Index: 0
Element type: invalid
Count of values: 0
Value:

Is the cause of the Unimixpm issues.....

HAPPY NEW YEAR

I have no idea what I did wrong last night, but after running a diff of the linux code between 5.2.x and 5.3.x, and seeing how trivial the changes were, I re-applied my diffs and rebuilt.

I must have been getting tired last night, as now 5.3.19 produces sound for me in Virtualbox with both ac97 and hda hardware!

https://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-5.3.18-20210101.zip

Will try for 5.4.x after a beach walk with the dogs!

Cheers,

Paul

 Happy New Year, Paul!

7 more hours to go here...

Version 5.3.18 boots, both release and debug versions. Debug has sound, but very loud. Release has no sound. Both only show 3 controls in PMUnimix. Also can't get a complete ALSAHLP$ log - maybe it wraps? (every time, I try immediately after the desktop appears). Example attached...

Regards,

Time for a glass of wine :)

https://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-5.4.86-20210101.zip - produces sound with ac97 and hda hardware in Virtualbox.

Will try on real hardware this afternoon.

Hi Martin,

Thanks for testing. Next steps will be to upload current sources to Netlabs, then try and fix some of the reported issues.

Cheers,

Paul

Source is now uploaded to netlabs: https://trac.netlabs.org/uniaud/browser/GPL/branches/uniaud32-next

There is definitely a problem with HDA hardware and the mixer list - causing issues with pmunimix.

For example - unimix -names shows:
Code: [Select]
ID: 1, name: [Front Playback Volume]
ID: 2, name: [Front Playback Switch]
ID: 3, name: [Surround Playback Volume]
ID: 4, name: [Surround Playback Switch]
ID: 5, name: [Center Playback Volume]

But unimix -list shows the following for ID: 1:
Code: [Select]
Control ID: 1
Interface: global control
Device(client): 0, subdevice (substream) 0
Name: []
Index: 0
Element type: invalid
Count of values: 0
Value:

This will be the priority issue to resolve .... I've created https://trac.netlabs.org/uniaud/ticket/247 for this issue.

uniaud32-linux-5.4.86-20210101.zip  working well (including unimix) with

Sound Blaster SB0100 PCI 2001 SB Live! 5.1
=============================
Card info for adapter 0:
  num: 0
  id: Live
  driver: EMU10K1
  name: SB Live! 5.1
  longname: SB Live! 5.1 (rev.7, serial:0x80641102) at 0xd880, irq 22
  mixer: eMicro EM28028
  componenets: AC97a:454d4328

I thought I had a problem at the start but it was just me adjusting the wrong mixing console balance (real world hardware).
My workshop is rockin :)

Thanks Ian - my assumption is that mixer controls are only broken on HDA hardware - ac97 (and now your) hardware is OK.

I have a November build of uniaud32.sys installed on my dev system - which doesn't produce sound, but does seem to have working mixer controls - I wonder what changed?

Edit: https://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-5.4.86-20210101b.zip *might* fix the mixer controls.. at least here unimix -list shows sensible output, and pmunimix seems to work.

If others can confirm, I'll commit the fix.
