Linux 3.10.108 code:
http://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-3.10.108.zip

With this one, front playback sound was off by default with the HDA hardware emulated by Virtualbox - for a moment, I thought sound was broken :)

Cheers,

Paul

Hey Guys,

I have 3.13.11 compiling - but it's giving me a TRAP 000E (attached) and also 3.14.79 compiled - but that one isn't detecting any hardware :/

Paul,

Tried 3.10 and 3.12, but both of those give me a TrapE in UNIAUD32, very similar to the one you show for 3.13. I actually got 3.12 to boot to the desktop once, but there was no sound and it did not respond to unimix commands (they processed as if accepted, but no effect on sound).

Regards,

Correct - I'm not going to release something that doesn't even work for me....

Interesting... I'll try and test on bare metal hardware today and see if I get the same thing.

meanwhile, Steven is trying to help me debug the Trap 000E

Cheers,

Paul

Well, the "good" news is that on my Thinkpad X250, I can reproduce the trap in 3.10 & 3.12, and 3.8 works.

Building 3.9 now to try and narrow down where things broke....

OK more tests..
3.9.11 - http://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-3.9.11.zip

3.13.11 - http://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-3.13.11.zip  <== includes hackaround with help from Steven Levine for the TRAP000E I was seeing
3.14.79 - http://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-3.14.79.zip <== doesn't trap, but fails to find an audio driver

Note: I haven't tried these on bare metal yet

Hi, I am way behind, but anyway.. I have a Thinkpad X61 with ArcaOS 5.05 recently installed. Like with any other installation before, I only had sound when docked to the docking station. Outside the docking station sound only worked after adding unimix line -id3 -val1. This made the speaker work, audio can be muted by using the hardware 'knob' for audio on-off, volume control knobs do not work.
Using 3.8.13 now for the first time gives me sound when undocked and without unimix line -id3 -val1. Control by hardware knobs is the same as before
Trying 3.12.74 gives me a trap at boot.

Paul, thank you for all your efforts!

Paul,

Tried the latest batch - here is what I see:

3.9: Boots, but no sound. Front Playback Volume (id2) is set to zero, but turning it up using unimix or PMUnimix does not get sound (even though 'unimix -list' shows volumes are turned up). I loaded the debug drivers and created an alsahlp$ log after booting, setting volumes and playing an MP3 file.

3.13: TrapE during boot at location: ##0168:fff0f667 - 000f:e667

3.14: During boot I see this message:
 open ret = -19
 OSS32_QueryNames() ret = -19
Unable to attach 32 bit driver
The device driver C:\MMOS2\UNIAUD16.SYS was not installed

Then the boot proceeds to the desktop with no sound (and no driver loaded)

Hi David,

Thanks for testing. Weird that you see a trap 000E with 3.13 :( Can you take a photo of the whole trap screen with the debug driver?

re: 3.14 - that's exactly what I see here.

Great to hear this improves your audio experience with the X61! It does make sense - current ArcaOS audio drivers are based on ALSA 1.0.24 (with a handful of backports from newer kernels), which was released in April 2011 - almost 10 years ago. It's incredible that it still supports some of the hardware in use with ArcaOS.

Even linux 3.8.13 which improves things for you, was released in May 2013 - so still a long time ago!

Cheers,

Paul

Hello. My tests have been the same as David M.

What I'm seeing is that with different color resolutions of the Panorama driver, I get different operating results.
With 1920x1080 64K , With the sound driver that I like the most, I lose the power to increase and decrease the volume with
 Alt + mouse wheel
At the same time the Manhonj game works better for me

With 1920x1080 16M , It happens to me the other way around, I can activate the volume with Alt + mouse wheel,
but the Manhonj game, it is a chaos.
If I cancel the sound the game works fine.

My favorite driver:

 7/05/20 17:28         36.148      0 a---  uniaud32.sym
 7/05/20 17:28        700.316      0 a---  uniaud32.sys

I attach the photos at 16m and 64k in case they are of any use, from driver 3.13.
