OK, I found the change in hda_codec.c that was causing the TRAP000E in 3.10.108 on some chipsets - I don't understand why yet, but I've reverted part of the code to that from 3.9 and I now get no trap from 3.10.108 on my X250 with an ALC292. I'm also (currently) getting no sound, but that's a different issue.

 Paul,

I can boot with both of those release versions, but no sound and no trap, even when playing an MP3. They do show in the hardware manager. Let me know if you need a debug alsahlp$....

Thanks Dave, that matches behaviour on my X250, so no need for a log at this stage. Let me investigate locally, and once I get sound working here on my X250, if you still have issues, then I'll ask for a log.

I'm also trying to clean up some of the patches to simplify things going forwards.

Does http://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-3.10.108-20200807b.zip give sound for people? The sound is distorted on my X250, but I think that's the problem MikeK reported a few months back with earlier builds.

I'll try and test this evening with the other old Thinkpad I have here.

Hi Paul, linux-3.10.108-20200807b gives not bad sound here, it doesn't seem quite right but close, like a crappy or old cassette recording or a radio station just very slightly miss tuned.
I only tested with Z!. The volume control on Z! and the volume widget, when adjusted causes static while adjusting and then back to where it was, same with mute, no muting.
Using PMUniMix, the volume sliders all work but if click the on/off button, the sound just loses some bass/gets tinny.
I'd put up with this but given a choice, well, I'm downgrading to your last good driver, Linux-3.6.11.
Thanks for the work.

Thanks for the comments. I thought your earlier post said 3.8.x was OK for you?

Can you try with:
http://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-3.10.108-20200807c.zip (hda_intel.c backlevelled to linux 3.8.13)
or
http://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-3.10.108-20200807d.zip (hda_intel.c backlevelled to linux 3.6.11)

This is just on a hunch that changes to hda_intel.c are driving the sound issues.

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Paul, I'm going to have to take back my comments after downgrading and then downgrading again to the stock uniaud shipped with AOS 5.05. I think it is these speakers causing the crappy sound, though with my bad hearing it is hard to judge :) PMUniMix acts much the same with all the tested drivers and the volume at first worked on Z!, then after opening the volume control, stopped working along with the volume control not working.
I probably did get mixed up on the tested versions.
I'll try your latest. I am using the Intel HDA I believe, Ivy Lake I5

Hi, uniaud32-linux-3.10.108-20200807c works much the same and actually sounds pretty good on headphones, but still not the best, need better speakers :)
About the volume, the Z! volume works fine until I open the volume widget, then it gets staticy when adjusting and stops actually changing the volume. Trick is to not use it.
All your builds I've tried vs the stock one in PMUniMix show PCM volume instead of front volume and also show the Headphone Playback Volume and it works, PCM adjusts the speakers, Headphone adjusts the headphone jack on the front of the computer. There's also front and rear mic volume controls which I haven't tested.
Have to see what others find with newer chipsets.
Once again, thanks.

Thanks for testing! So no significant difference between 20200807b.zip and 20200807c.zip ? (That's good if it's the case, as I'll continue with cleaning up the code).

Hi, Paul.

Does http://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-3.10.108-20200807b.zip give sound for people? The sound is distorted on my X250, but I think that's the problem MikeK reported a few months back with earlier builds.

Versions
uniaud32-linux-3.10.108-20200807b.zip
uniaud32-linux-3.10.108-20200807c.zip
uniaud32-linux-3.10.108-20200807d.zip
they work just as well as
uniaud32-linux-3.5.zip

  driver: HDA-Intel
longname: HDA ATI SB at 0xfe6f8000 irq 19
  mixer: Realtek ALC892

Paul,

All 3 of those 3.10 versions work with sound here - system sounds, MP3's, YouTube, and PMUniMix works with them as well. Great progress, thanks!

All these versions work fine.

LINUX-3-12-74-20200807-DEBUG   OK SONIDO, OK VOLUMEN, PANTALLA 16M
LINUX-3-10-108-20200807B-DEBUG OK SONIDO, OK VOLUMEN, PANTALLA 16M
LINUX-3-10-108-20200807C-DEBUG OK SONIDO, OK VOLUMEN, PANTALLA 16M
LINUX-3-10-108-20200807D-DEBUG OK SONIDO, OK VOLUMEN, PANTALLA 16M

But when returning to the version  lllinux-3.10.108-20200804-debug

 4/08/20 19:06         38.868      0 a---  uniaud32.sym
 4/08/20 19:06      1.051.468      0 a---  uniaud32.sys

I had just started this video on youtube:
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tuyy-DMBAwM
 background music

open TrueSpectra, load any program and close it.
The system sounds are activated, I do not remember if when opening or closing.
The volume suddenly increased without me activating anything
And the screen disappears but only from the running video, what normally looks like a tree and moon turns black.
All the rest of the screen works correctly.
The sound interferes with the screen, but if I try to repeat it I can't,
although this is the second time it has happened to me.
Luck

 Paul,

3.12 seems to work fine, but I get no sound with 3.10. I'll upload debug Alsahlp$ files...

Both work well for me with the basics, but the 3-12-74-20200808 is much higher. This is my new favorite. After torturing him a bit.
