Hi Paul,

As others have said there are some of us that appreciate the work you do for us and the fact that you let us know your progress.

In my case I hope your work will give sound to my various AMD Ryzen based computer builds that have the Realtek ALC 892 7.1 channel audio as well as HDMI audio since nothing available works at the moment.

BTW I am still using the version of Sigil you produced years ago even if it is rather long in the tooth, so thank you for that also.

Hi Ivan,
As others have said there are some of us that appreciate the work you do for us and the fact that you let us know your progress.

In my case I hope your work will give sound to my various AMD Ryzen based computer builds that have the Realtek ALC 892 7.1 channel audio as well as HDMI audio since nothing available works at the moment.

I'd be interested to see the results of trying to boot with the 4.14.202 build I posted earlier with the Ryzen's - you won't get sound, but the kernel is reasonably up to date. If it doesn't boot, please send me a testlog report so I can see the PCI IDs and give you an indication of the required kernel version to get working sounds.

Status update on 4.14.202:
I fixed the hang at boot by making sure I was using consistent kernel code/headers for regmap/regcache/rbtree - I'd previously shoplifted bits of code from different kernel versions as I'd needed different functions - not a good idea.

For my rewards, I got a trap in krealloc() which I fixed, now another trap setting up jack controls that I'm still investigating. I still hope that once this issue is resolved, the mixer controls will work and we'll be good to go, but there's no guarantee that hasn't been other changes that break things.

Thanks to all who posted in here - I'll keep posting updates as meaningful things happen.

Cheers,

Paul

PS that Sigil build is so long ago, I don't even remember what Sigil is/does :)

OK.... with some more insight from Steven Levine, I now get a successful boot with 4.14.202 and HDA hardware without having to comment out any code! However, on Virtualbox, I'm still getting no sound output. I'll try testing on real hardware as time permits (noting that on my X250 I get a Trap 000E), but any data from other users would be helpful.

A copy of alsahlp$ (ie copy alsahlp$ alsa.log) would be helpful after an initial boot.

 Hi Paul,

Unfortunately, I get a TrapE with this one, I'll attach a screen shot. Also got my first Trap dump if you need it. (Haven't had a chance in a while to try any other versions lately... sorry about that).

Interestingly I had a TRAP 000e yesterday in os2krnl with the same 'location' information. Maybe totally different as EIP is different. But can anyone explain why 'location' is the same?

If you can zip the dump up and get it to me that would be helpful. It's probably the same trap as I get on the X250, but I haven't had time to setup a dump partition on it yet, so this may be quicker.

Cheers,

Paul

Paul,

7zipped it up and it is about 105MB (I limited the trap dump to 512MB - hope that is OK). How should I send?

You hopefully have a Dropbox file request from me, that should allow you to upload the dump to my dropbox account.

The other sorta good news, is that I was able to setup a dump partition on my X250 so I have a sample dump from there - it would be good to confirm it's the same trap though.

Cheers,

Paul

The location is just the exception handler in the kernel. It will always be the same (at least for the same trap number but I even think it is a general handler).

Even if it is not much of help, the same trap here on the T480.

Unfortunately I do not have the possibility to grap a log file, but I think it is not necessary as others provided already!

Thanks guys - the results are a little deflating given my relative success in Virtualbox. I'm going to focus for the next few days on cleaning up the build and trying to eliminate as many warnings as possible - there are some that could *potentially* explain crashes. Interestingly, Dave's dump indicates a trap in a different section of the code to the trap from my X250 - I'll try and get dump partitions setup on my T60 and T510 as well.

I'll post updates here when there's something to update.

Still a WIP - but I fixed some warnings - and my T60 now boots (still no sound but it detects the hardware). My X250 still traps, but it's a different trap to Dave's - so who knows, this might boot for some more folks.

Hi Paul,

FYI: unfortunately I will not be able to test for a while, I had to change the internal SSD of the T480 to a NVme, so ARcaOS is gone on this device. I might bring back a SATA SSD but I am not sure when. Maybe meanwhile there will be a NVme Driver from Arca Noae and that would help as well. Sorry.

All the best.

Sigurd
