Hi Dave,

That was with the release version - what I typically try first. Just tried the debug version and that one works perfectly - 9 controls in PMUnimix, no hesitations, and shows up in the hardware manager.

Guess i didn't try it then because of the flurry of releases at that time. I'll try to be more rigorous about testing in future. Thanks for your Olympian efforts at modernizing UniAud! Alsahlp$ attached...

Good news - it means my other code cleanups/simplifications weren't the cause of the trap - it was 'just' the change in krealloc - which fixed one issue and broke another :P

Hey Ian,

Quote
I'll check tomorrow, but I don't think the code for that Creative HDA is enabled. It might be easy to enable it....

Not a priority unless others want it, I just had that PCIe card in the spares box but if it's easy, thanks :)

I think it was easy :) https://smedley.id.au/tmp//uniaud32-linux-5.4.86-20210102-debug.zip

Note: this is otherwise identical to 0101b - I've only included the debug build as the release build is trapping.

I'll remove some of the debug messages in the next build that will help quiet things down a bit in the log, and may also reduce the delays...

FYI...

Paul's link below has an extra '/tmp/' in the URL, so in case you're not able to fix it up on your own here is the correct URL => https://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-5.4.86-20210102-debug.zip

...I think it was easy :) https://smedley.id.au/tmp//tmp/uniaud32-linux-5.4.86-20210102-debug.zip...

Paul,
Here are my results for the last three releases:

1) uniaud32-linux-5.3.18-20210101.zip
FAIL - HARD STOP during boot, Power OFF/ON required

2) uniaud32-linux-5.4.86-20210101b.zip
FAIL - TRAP 000e

3) uniaud32-linux-5.4.86-20210102-debug.zip
FAIL - HARD STOP during boot, Power OFF/ON required

The HARD STOP during boot behaviour for #1 and #3 above is something new...haven't see this before (or at least I do not remember seeing it), not sure if maybe additional DEBUG stuff caused some kind of memory issue (3072 here), although not likely since I tried both the RELEASE and DEBUG builds of uniaud32-linux-5.3.18-20210101.zip with the same results for both.

Happy New Year to you too!
-Dariusz

Okay, I found what the problem is.  This driver works good with the os/2 kernel.  I does NOT work with the os/4 kernel.

With the ArcaOs uniaud32 driver, I have sound.

With all these test drivers I have tested, I lose my sound.

Intel Corporation
7 series/C216 Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller.  There is no trap, only the loss of sound.

Just tested   5.4.86-20210102-debug on my CA0106 (of course  on OS/4)   -  works ok

pls show logs on OS/4  and  ory kernel

Happy new year! Tested the 5.4.86-20210102-debug on my S1 Yoga 12. Works well.

But - as with all driver files before, only three controls are enabled, I guess it should be more of them.

Attach a picture and the list file.

Well done!

Sigurd

 Hi Paul,

Like you say, 5.4.86-20210102 works identically to 0101b-debug here: boots, proper sound, 9 controls in PMUnimix, but hesitates before playing system sounds.

Regards,

Testing 5.4.86-20210102-debug here, worked fine, though loud, using PMUniMix (has 5 controls, which seems about right) to turn down the volume results in the system sounds that often start loud then adjust to the correct volume while playing.

What does unimix -list show for controls? I have no idea how pmunimix 'short lists' the output from unimix to determine what it shows. Perhaps it's logic needs a tuneup?

Cheers,

Paul

Hi All,

I have a rather large diff ready to commit - before I do so, I just want to confirm there are no significant regressions vs the 20210102 builds.

This diff cleans up a lot of the alsa-kernel code which should ease future patching against updated linux code. It also updates some libraries from 4.14.202 level to 4.19.163 level - TODO is to update them to 5.4.86 levels, but that can wait for a rainy day.

Debug only build until the traps with the release code are fixed.

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Paul,

20210103 debug runs without problems.

I attach the unimix -list and unimix - card files.

Still 3 Entries in PM Uniaud as before.

All the best!

Sigurd
