Attached file is from testing using  uniaud32-linux-5.10.4-20210105c.zip.
Collection of Intel, AMD motherboards as well as individual PCI cards. All audio was tested with ears as well as 'unimix -card'.
None of the MB's or cards are recent, as they all work fine, and I'm happy with the cards I use under OS/2 or Linux.
I have not tested with ISA cards due to the time it would take to image OS/2 to a IDE drive as I nolonger have any motherboards with both ISA, and SATA.
Not sure if anyone would still be using ISA audio cards (Old consumer SB, Mediavision, aztech etc),

** UPDATED attached file. **

Sometimes I do. But only because the analog audio performance of this Turtle Beach Pinnacle is outstanding. As there were never OS/2 drivers available for this card I only use it with the included Win32 applications in WinOS2. Offtopic for this thread.

Hello Paul,

...https://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-5.2.21-20210107.zip has hda_intel.c replaced with the version from 5.1.21 - I'd be interested to hear if this resolves the hang. There's nothing obvious at first glance that changed, but worth a shot...

Thank you, but same result. Hard-lock during boot.

Interesting - any chance you can setup a dump partition and generate a system dump during the hang? I'm assuming Ctrl-Alt-Num Lock-Num Lock will will work to trigger a dump....

That's the thing though Paul...even that "get me out of this jam last resort" approach does not work. It is literally a HARD lock...nothing responds.

I honestly am starting to question whether there is something else off in my system.

I am booting with QSINIT and the AOS 202_SMP kernel...tried the old 201_SMP, no difference there. Let me figure out how to get a boot that's as plain-vanilla as possible going...

Alright...I've got some interesting results to report after all!  8)

1) I went back to the non-QSINIT loader, same result, HARD-LOCK

2) I then went to OS4 config, which means I ran their APIC drivers
a) uniaud32-linux-5.2.21-20210107.zip => boots fine, no problem, sound is there
b) uniaud32-linux-5.10.4-20210104-debug.zip => boots fine, no problem, sound is there

Sooo...clearly in my case there is something about the non-OS4 config that's causing a problem. Just about the only other thing I need to rule out is the latest ACPI driver, that being 3.23.15.

Therefore, I will revert back to 3.23.14 ACPI driver and re-test. I had some funny things pop up with the 3.23.15 driver before, but it was inconsistent and since it didn't repeat I had written it off as a one-off type of a thing. Maybe there is more to it?

It is worth giving it a try but keep in the back of your head that a Trap E can occur for a lot of reasons. If you use the OS4 kernel, the memory layout will look different. This is also the case if you load additional drivers etc.

By the way: what I have observed with ACPI 3.23.15 is that cores > 0 can take a long time to be reenabled and if they are, they run at 100 % for some time until everything drops back to normal. Can you check with 3.23.14 if that was different or the same ?
The reason behind my question: I had modified an app for 2 of its threads to NOT execute on core 0 (for specific reasons). But with 3.23.15, the system would not reenable cores > 0 even when these 2 threads signaled that they were ready to execute (but would not be scheduled). I had to change the app back to using all cores for these 2 threads.

Lars, Paul, everyone...

It is worth giving it a try but keep in the back of your head that a Trap E can occur for a lot of reasons. If you use the OS4 kernel, the memory layout will look different. This is also the case if you load additional drivers etc.

Indeed. There is more to this than just the ACPI driver difference. Going back to 3.23.14 did NOT improve the situation, still the same failure.

For some happy news though: uniaud32-linux-5.10.5-20210108.zip works just fine with OS4.

NOTE: below is very much non-uniaudio specific, but I figured it was worthwhile sharing my experience in case others may benefit from it.

...By the way: what I have observed with ACPI 3.23.15 is that cores > 0 can take a long time to be reenabled and if they are, they run at 100 % for some time until everything drops back to normal. Can you check with 3.23.14 if that was different or the same ?

Interesting, this is very close to what I was seeing actually. More specifically though, in a certain sequence of events (shutting off all but a single core and re-enabling) caused all the cores to go to 100%. That was my brief experience while attempting (re-visiting actually) the ACPI Power Manager use. I normally do NOT run the ACPI power management on my desktop machine. I simply have found that throttling logic and/or execution to be literaly too lagging. Namely, it took too long for the immediate power-needed NOW to translate to additional cores actually throttling up.

Yes I know that the throtting is supposed to happen fast, but alas here that just did not pan out. This is not for lack of trying. I spent a good amount of time working with acpid.cfg and the various settings never really arriving at what felt like a seamless execution. I suppose (I hope) that on a laptop the momentary inconvenience of a lag may be tollerable given the hopefully longer battery life (due to core throttling and therefore power use), but on my desktop machine that just wasn't a tradeoff I wanted to pursue.

...The reason behind my question: I had modified an app for 2 of its threads to NOT execute on core 0 (for specific reasons). But with 3.23.15, the system would not reenable cores > 0 even when these 2 threads signaled that they were ready to execute (but would not be scheduled). I had to change the app back to using all cores for these 2 threads.

I can not speak to core-affinity requirements such as these, but I will tell you that previously 3.23.13 was trully the last good version of ACPI I had. When 3.23.14 came out I immediately hit a wall in terms of being able to enabled and disable cores, keep in mind this is all with the ACPI PM shut OFF. I had logged this issue for AOS given that my reporting was being done as part of the Testers List and was very specific to the ACPI driver itself as opposed to the whole AOS package (https://mantis.arcanoae.com/view.php?id=3002). Did not make much progress with that, things went nowhere beyond some technical info exchange and the case was ultimately closed due to being of "unsupported configuration" (I am not running AOS, still Warp 4.5 CP2 with piece-wise upgrades).

My point is, through multiple tests of my own it felt like 3.23.15 finally brought back the 3.23.13 behaviour (core disable & enable now works), however, I did see this weirdness you talked about.

Hi

https://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-5.10.5-20210108.zip

I tried "uniaud32-linux-5.10.5-20210108.zip" on the Thinkpad L420.
- No Trap. Sound is working. Master volume control working. PMUnimix 0.82 master volume working.

Congratulation on reaching this Linux kernel level release.

The 5.10.5-20210108 version

Works okay on:
Lenovo ThinkPad T510
Lenovo ThinkPad L530
Asus M3A78-EM

Doesn't work on my Asus A88XM-A. No traps, but it appears that it doesn't load, at all. The older UniAud (from ArcaOS 5.0.6) works, but the controller has problems, even in windows (apparently it has an open input, that cannot be turned off, without using a special Realtek driver).

Okay, some details, with or without "/A:1" (needed for the ArcaOS driver):
Using the 108 driver, UniMix says:
Code: [Select]
[C:\MMOS2]unimix -dev0 -card -pcms
Command line mixer for UNIAUD32. Version 1.1
Detected UNIAUD version 2.02.05

Using the driver from ArcaOS 5.0.6 (with "/A:1) it says:

Now, the "interesting part:
From PCI.EXE, I see two audio devices. First an Intel device, that seems to be attached to HDMI:

which seems to be the one that actually makes sound, with the driver from ArcaOS.

Also, note that the ArcaOS driver is shown as version 2.02.06, while your 108 is shown as version 2.02.05.

Let me know if I can supply more information.

THANKS...

Seems the mixer isn't identified for some reason.  I'd be interested in seeing the output of 'copy alsahlp$ alsa.log'
