Definitely interesting - it might help to know when this chipset stopped working - it which kernel revision broke things - just depends if you can be bothered working through all the builds I've posted to determine when it broke... The only clue in the log is 'Unable to bind the codec'

I haven't been testing on this machine, because it is my "production" machine. Others were reporting what I saw on the laptops. They seem to be working now, so I tried this one. OOPS!

I will see if I can figure it out, tomorrow. I will try jumping in at various points to try to avoid having to try every release.

FYI: I have a hardware report on "AMD FCH Azalia Controller  1002:780D" that was not working with UniAud 2.2.6 on the Thinkpad E555. Is it working now with uniaud32-linux-5.10.5-20210108.zip?

A lot of your information is probably wrong, or needs an added explanation. Mine is a desktop, with Asus A88XM-A motherboard and AMD A6 processor. It does work with the UniAud that comes with ArcaOS 5.0.6, but but requires the /A:1 parameter to get it to use the proper adapter (the HDMI audio adapter doesn't work, but I don't have an HDMI device to connect anyway). It did NOT work with some earlier version of UniAud (about 3 or 4 years ago). I don't remember the details. As I posted, it is NOT working with the 108 test version.

Hi Dave,

This 0103 version works perfectly on my desktop machine (HDA: ALC887-VD): boots, proper sound, 9 controls in PMUnimix, no hesitations, appears in the hardware manager. I'll keep using this one and let you know if anything comes up - thanks again! Hope to soon see your bust in the OS/2 hall of fame!

Glad it works for you! Your comment about the hall of fame gave me a giggle - to be honest - I'm just glad people appreciate my work. The comments (and of course the occasional sponsorship that helps pay for new gadgets) are truly appreciated.

Big thanks for recent working updates for uniaud, as it was somehow stated that the code base what we had was not usable anymore and needs a complete replacement. Good that the core updates are in place now.

Big thanks Paul for getting the UniAud drivers to the latest linux kernel level. From may 2020 to today you have generated 65 compilations of the driver. Awesome.

Thanks! As to the comment on the code base being unusable - I'll admit that I once believed that. ALSA used to be a separate download up until ALSA 1.0.25 at which point the code moved into the linux kernel, and code moved around in terms of what directory it was located in. At the time ALSA stopped being able to be downloaded separately, I did look at the linux kernel code and for whatever reason - couldn't piece together how they'd split the code up.

Looking at it again early last year it didn't take me long at all to decipher things, and I can now pretty quickly replicate the necessary code from the linux kernel is a structure that's compatible with Uniaud32.

Cheers,

Paul.

Thanks :) There's actually many more than 65 builds - what you see is just the ones I uploaded. In particular, between 4.0.9 and the working 4.14.202 I was not idle - I've spent literally HUNDREDS of hours over the past 12 months on Uniaud.

Cheers,

Paul
