I no longer run OS/2 I'm afraid, I'm a Unix/Linux sort of person.  However, many moons ago, I and my family used OS/2 and our word processor was Describe.

I have just come across some old Describe word processor files that I would like to recover.

Does anyone here still run Describe (or have a copy on their OS/2 system) who would be willing to load my files on their system and save into some more
readable (for me) format?  Alternatively does anyone know of a modern word processor that can read Describe files?

Hi Chris, just courious of what Describe looked like, I've installed it on my OS2 virtual machine. It saves file in .dwp (Describe Word Processor format file) and .sam as well (Ami Pro 1.0 - 2.0).
These two format can both be opened by Starwriter (suite Staroffice 5.1), which then can save files in .doc (MS Word 97) format.
I already have Staroffice.
If they're not many files to be converted, send me just one to try with, for testing a final .doc conversion and see what will the result be.

Hi Chris,

Describe still in use here although most files are now saved as text which then go into Sigil to become e-pub books.  The main question is, what format would you like and is it essential to keep the formatting?

Send me an e-mail ivan10atfreedotfr (replace at and dot).  less than a hundred files shouldn't taks more than a day unless you want them in some exotic file type.
