QT5 simplebrowser

After few hours I couldn't find all needed dll-s.
Last missed is WEBPDEM2. In which file is that dll located?

FYI: Roderick posted some information of the "Test version of the new QT based browser".  He updated the readme.txt (2021-02-07) to help with some doubts.

Silvan from Bitwise Works corrected on twitter that it is not a test version of the new browser, it is a proof of concept with a very simple browser within qtwebengine.

Anyways, feedback is welcome. I remain myself optimist about this project, we really need a modern browser.

Well then I did not word it optimal, sorry not intended wrong in any way :-)

What I tried to achieve with the readme is that this is a test browser from the QT framework.
It lacks some of the features of a normal browser. Wha is does show is that this rendering engine is way more spec compliant then Firefox 45 is.

I hope people are willing to make a donation.

Hi All

So far this browser test is a complete failure here . I am presuming that I am meant to start it using the run.sh file in a bash window (in the absence of the run.cmd mentioned in the readme) but entering run causes the window to disappear then reappear and creates an empty log.

Possibly I am starting it wrong or do not have all the needed support libs...

One needs to read the read me. be sure to follow the direction in it and update all the appropriator RPM files. When you have done this reboot. Run the browser from the command line with nothing else running. I found it  to be a great step for the future browser.

At a cmd line, doing "sh run.sh" should work. Have you tried the included chkdll32? Example,

In the personal notebook it works for me with its limitations. But when trying at work, the program does not start. I am attaching the file simplebrowser-check.log Some dlls are not loaded.

The problem is the usual one - there should have been a zip (or 7z) supplied with ALL the DLLs that are needed to run the browser.  That way everyone trying to test it would stand a reasonable chance of having it work for them.

The checkdll32 routine indicated some of the libs involved needed updating here.

The browser now starts but does not display any webpage text on most of the websites I have tried - ie os2world.com loads as a page without any text or images. Should this browser be able to display os2world.com? - If "Yes" then I suspect I missed another lib that needs updating.

If you go to f.e youtube.com does that show correct??
As for me i also see on f.e google.com no text  also for os2world.com i see habbits and a bad look.
But on my test comp it's working great and i can load most sites correct.

Start it by typing

sh run.sh
You can use the OS/2 command prompt for that - no need to start a specific shell.

If you want to check if you have all necessary support files installed, type

Code: [Select]

sh run-check.sh
That produces a text file named simplebrowser-check.log, that might contain a clue.
