An application for BOOT from usb any ISO - Ventoy

I have found this application and it could be interesting. I have tested it above and from the bios if it lets start an image.iso of arcaos506, but it stops after the acpi, with a pause for you to insert media. And it does not continue, except inserting the cd, but that is not the idea.
The airboot will not start it.But if you recognize it as bootable.

Hi

Having an OS/2 (ArcaOS or eCS) to boot from an USB device was always on my wishlist but I never finished my testing. There was this discussion some years ago. "Already there: a bootable OS/2 Stick - FreeOS2Loader".

Maybe someday I will try that again.

I believe the problem is that the USB drivers aren't loaded soon enough when booting of USB, which is why the ArcaOS installer first creates a ram drive.

Dave - I attach an image of how far the boot goes. You can see that the usb drivers are loaded.

Remy - I did not know the application, but I do not see it so simple with that application.

Loaded. yes. Operational, no. The USB drivers normally take a few seconds (a LONG time, at computer speed) to finish initializing. During that time, there is no access to USB devices. Since OS/2 doesn't have any way to wait for initialization, it just assumes that the media went away (or the required file(s) aren't there), so it throws the error.

Some machines have a setting in the BIOS, something about "USB hand off", where the BIOS will continue to operate USB devices, until the driver takes over. That may work, sometimes, but could be very timing sensitive. The switch would need to happen exactly between file fetching, or the switch could happen while the file is being fetched (probably not a good thing).

I installed a 120GB ssd in the enclosure.  I copy the ISO file to the device.  Then set the device to be a DVD, and plugged the device into a usb socket.  I was able to install with no problems.

The only complaint I have so far is the poor "jog button" interface to select options on the device.  The manual is sparse and does not explain in detail this "jog button."

I use this device on ArcaOS, FreeBSD, Windows, and various Linux distributions.
I never have to make another DVD disk.

I have a Zalman with CD emulator. It isn't very easy to use due it takes some time to enable the emulator and on some desktop PC, the time is greater than the time between USB is powered on and boot start .... on disk due the emlator isn't ready fast enough. For best use, have an USB port with always power on

After researching, I found a kind of improved successor of the Zalman device:

I got mine for €85,00 from Amazon.

It remembers the selected CD image and up to four virtual Floppies/Sticks/removable HDDs and has a keypad instead of a jog dial. Only if you use AES encryption, an always-on USB port is recommended, otherwise it would be hard to enter the password before the computer boots.

I have a Samsumg SSD QVO (don't buy this series with four bits per cell) which works inside a PC, but refused to operate in two other external enclosures. In the IODD-2541 it works.
