Hobbes (Files) Reoganization

<< < (50/59) > >>

Martin Iturbide:
Hello.

The other day I was thinking a little bit about the "fonts" directory on hobbes.
For what I know OS/2 supports four kind of fonts.
- PostScript
- Truetype
- type1
- OS/2 Bitmap Font - .fon

Currently hobbes has three directories with ps, truetype and type1. I'm still not sure if I should only create a new directory for the .fon (Bitmap) fonts, or if fonts should be reorganized in a different way in hobbes.

Sergey Posokhov:
"Raster fonts" maybe?

Alex Taylor:
Either "Raster" or "Bitmap" makes sense.

FWIW, Type 1 fonts are Postscript fonts -- they are the same thing. I have no idea why Hobbes has two different directories for them.

Martin Iturbide:
Hello, thanks for the feedback

You are right Alex, thanks. I also found this:

--- Quote --- Type 1 fonts (also known as PostScript, PS1, T1, Adobe Type 1, Multiple Master, or MM) are a format within the font industry that has been replaced by formats that can support larger glyph sets.

Type 1 fonts were introduced by Adobe in 1984 for use with its PostScript page description language, and became widely used with the spread of desktop publishing software and printers that could use PostScript. In 1996, Adobe products and type development began to concentrate on the use of more versatile OpenType fonts rather than Type 1.

source: Adobe

I haven't installed any Postscript or Type1 font on OS/2, but for what I see the files on /ps and /type1 has the same extensions (.PFB .PFM .AFM .PFA).
But I still do not find what was the factor for a user to upload a font to choose between  /ps or /type1.

Maybe both directories can be merge into Postscript. "Type 1" a lightest directory compared to "ps".

Hello

A different but related question.

I read that "DSPRES.DLL" contains fonts inside.  Like this file:  warpsans.zip

Is the "DSPRES.DLL" supposed to contain a Bitmap font? Postscript? Depends?, so I can categorize this file on hobbes.

Regards
