- DOSIdle :  Don't know what it does and where to put it.

this one should help fix high DOS CPU usage for CA-Clipper (similar to slicer.com from the neatutls.zip package from dink but for only one program)

That's good. Maybe both (DOSIdle  and NeatUtils) can go into "/pub/os2/util/system", otherwise I'm open for a better location suggestion on hobbes.

And I found more about CcDoc, it will go to "/pub/os2/dev/tools/docgen"

About driver duplicates, as far as the "main driver" goes:

1) https://hobbes.nmsu.edu/download/pub/os2/system/drivers/network/os2ndisp.exe (Version: 2.04c)
is an exact duplicate of
2) https://hobbes.nmsu.edu/download/pub/os2/system/drivers/network/TokenRingPCIv33b.zip (Version: 3.3b)

But 1) contains an additional driver to support PC-CARD based interface HW but compared to 2) it is lacking the DOS drivers.
For OS/2, package 1) is therefore the more complete set of drivers.

If you insist on keeping both, I suggest to at least update both descriptions to "Version 2.04c" because that is what the enclosed documentation refers to in both cases.

Hi
On this case I think it will be better to merge both. I had just uploaded it "TokenRingPCI_3-3b.zip" to replace both files.

Hi

I had new question about where to locate things.

There some some utilities that replaces OS/2 command, like "cd", "dir", replacements (ex; d53.zip, ctree.zip, dcd.zip, dd051.zip, deldat10.zip, delpth11.zip, deltree.zip, etc). A lof of them are on "/pub/os2/util/disk"
I'm not sure if that should be the correct location, since I see the "/disk" more as partition utilities, disk tools (defrag, checkdisk, format) and even floppy image utilities.

Which other options do I have:
- "/pub/os2/util/misc"          - Not sure, since at the end everything ends on "Misc"
- "/pub/os2/util/file"            - Maybe, since some of this command line utilities may be realted to files
- "/pub/os2/util/system"      - Maybe, there are some command line tools there, but also some hardware report utilities.
Or a create a new directory.

What do you think? Ideas are welcome.

Ian has commandline. Much better than disk or misc, IMO. I don't know if I would prefer cmdline.

Bonjour,

- "/pub/os2/util/file"            - Maybe, since some of this command line utilities may be realted to files

The tools mentioned are meant for files and directories, so "/pub/os2/util/file" would make sense.

Adding more directories to Hobbes wouldn't make sense, IMHO.

BTW, thanks, Martin, for the job done so far on this huge project.

Have a nice day.
Take care you all.

Thanks for the feedback.

I will go with the idea of putting the file/directory related command line tools on "/pub/os2/util/file", but I will have to check later if the "/util/file" grows too much and see if some other idea comes out.

Hi Martin, I'm missing Mark Kimes' mshred on Hobbes:

Harald has it on his site: ftp://cyberia.dnsalias.com/pub/filebase/gfd/wps/tool/mshred.zip

mshred WPS object: A "super-shredder" for OS/2 Warp+ from M. Kimes.
Free-for-the-using. It has two modes, trashcan and shredder. The shredder can
delete e.g. WPS objects that the WPS denies.

Hi

"/pub/os2/util/file" is now done, but if you know other applications missing, let me know.

I will continue with:
- /pub/os2/util/disk
- /pub/os2/util/system

Hi

I need some help to understand the FreeType stuff on "/pub/os2/system/drivers/misc".
This are supposed to be a "Font Driver", but I don't know if it actually an OS/2 driver, or a run time DLL.

What do you think it should be location for the FreeType files?

There are several packages that contain both installable files and source files. Sometimes source files are made available in a different package, sometimes not and sometimes they contain only runtimes. It's not limited to FreeType.

It depends how you want to handle this. Every option has its disadvantages:
  • Put source files and runtimes in one dir.
  • Split pure source file packages from runtime and mixed packages.
  • Extract source files from mixed packages to keep them cleanly separated.
Of course, the decision should be consistent. And the last one is probably too much work. The first one makes it easier for developers to find sources for runtimes. It would be the easiest to handle. The second one is that what the Hobbes tree implies, IIRC, but files are often not put into the correct dir (you know that better). Mixed packages are put to the runtime packages. That's better than letting users hunt for runtime files in the source tree. Source packages are often only available for older versions and it's hard for developers to find sources in mixed packages, even when there exist many versions.

Hi

My doubt is not on how to handle the source code. It is only if FreeType applies like a driver on "/pub/os2/system/drivers/misc" or if it should be located somewhere else on hobbes. Like on "/pub/os2/dev/runtimes" or " /pub/os2/dev/libraries".

Freetype/2 is a driver based on freetype which is a library
