Have you tested any of the new Qt 6 builds?

Hi All - I'm interested to know how many people have tested my Qt6 builds. I've put a couple of options in there for 'No' but feel free to comment if there are other reasons for not testing.

Paul,

On my side this is simply a matter of lack of time after the end of work and return home. I feel like in order to do the appropriate job of the testing I would need to commit to the long-term process and not drop-out here and there. Right now that's simply not feasible.

Is there a chance that we might define a 'milestone' release that folks like myself could engage in?

Regardless, and I hope you know this, your efforts are greatly appreciated because there is no amount of $$$ (:-[) that can make up for the personal time you've invested into this!!!

Hi Paul

I had tested your Qt6 and I think it is going great. I just had a little confusion between the releases 6.2.4, 6.3.2, 6.4.3 because I would expect for you to only focus on the lastest version and try to improve that, but you are working on those three versions at the same time  ;D

I think you also answered you self on the poll. I think there are a group of users waiting for a release on RPM to solve the little complexity of adjusting the paths when testing Qt 6.

Your builds are awesome, and you did it on an interactive way to also tech and show your progress step by step.

Hey Martin,

I had tested your Qt6 and I think it is going great. I just had a little confusion between the releases 6.2.4, 6.3.2, 6.4.3 because I would expect for you to only focus on the lastest version and try to improve that, but you are working on those three versions at the same time  ;D

Well the initial logic with 6.2.4 was that it was a Long Term Support version - except I didn't realise that after 12 months, the newer versions were commercial only for 12 months. Also, the 'delta' in the code was relatively short to 5.15. I wouldn't say I'm really working on 6.2.4 any more (other than recently dynamically linking the av1 video codec)

Stepping up to 6.3.x was supposed to be easy - except there are a few things not working.

6.4.x is the current main focus (until next week when 6.5.0 is released).

So whilst there have been 3 versions released, my hope is to get 6.4.x working the 'best' ASAP so that there will only be one version in development.

Hope this helps.

I still need to get organised at my new address, setup my main OS/2 box and server before I do testing etc.
I do intent to install your QT6 builds.
I keep getting distracted driving from Perth-Melbourne-Perth etc, driven through Adelaide 4 times now in the past 13 months..
Cheers

Hey Ian,,

Next time you're passing through Adelaide, sing out. It would be good to catch up - I think last time was a Melbourne PCUG in 2002-2003 which happened to line up with some business travel.

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Not tested so far, but following the progress with great interest.

The main reason I'm not testing them yet is lack of time. (Also, most of my test-bed systems are largely tied up with other things at the moment.)

Thanks - I get it. In fact, part of the reason I've been able to spend extra time on this is due to me breaking a toe back in January, which has severely constrained my outside of work activities. I'm actaully having surgery on it on Thursday (pin + bone graft) as it's not healing two months later. I'll likely be off work with my feet up (literally) for a couple of weeks - which might give me time to get us up to Qt 6.5 (which is a LTS release) and fix the web browser issues.

Thought about contacting you about 3 weeks ago but also thought
I would be getting to Adelaide late, will keep it in mind for next
time. Ditto if your ever over Perth way.

Toes, and foot arches are bad to break..
Hope all goes well with the surgery.

Cheers

Hope you get fixed up soon. I know just how debilitating a foot injury can be.  I tore an achilles tendon last year and it was around 5 months before I could walk unaided. It's amazing how much of one's life it puts on hold.
