Addonics OPL Sound Card - OS/2 Warp Connect
(1/1)
Marc Galloway:
I'm trying to get this OPL (YMF701-S) sounds card working under Warp Connect. I have tried a few of the Sound Blaster options that come built-in but no luck. I have included a picture of config output. Not sure if this card is supported under OS/2.

Hi Marc
Do you want to try this one:
https://hobbes.nmsu.edu/?detail=%2Fpub%2Fos2%2Fsystem%2Fdrivers%2Fsound%2FYamaha_OPL3-SA_3-20-0.zip
or older
https://hobbes.nmsu.edu/?detail=%2Fpub%2Fos2%2Fsystem%2Fdrivers%2Fsound%2FYamaha_OPL3-SA_3-04-0_lang.zip
It lists the YMF 701 on the description. It is the OPL3SA.SYS driver. Seems to contain also the VDD driver for DOS VDM.
Run install.cmd or minstall on the directory that has control.scr. If I recall correctly OS/2 Warp 3 did came with minstall.

Hi Marc
How is the fixpack level on your Warp 3?
You can do a "version /r" to know the level version and also "syslevel >out.txt" to get a txt file of the version of each OS component.
Note: I recommend taking a backup of your whole system before applying fixpacks. I don't know if you have some versatil solution for HDD, like compact flash as HDD that will make it easier for you to backup the full HDD.

Hi Martin,
Sounds card is working now. The older driver is what my sound card liked. I'm including some screenshots of the setup process and settings that worked for me. You definitely need to know what address, DMA and IRQ settings the card is configured for. In picture 5 I show my config.sys items related to the sound card, I deleted the last two lines since I'm not using the game port.

That's awesome.
Don't remove the game port, just REM it on the config.sys, maybe you will get a gameport gamepad to try out some games in the future ;D ;D
