getting ArcaOS to remember video resolution
« on: May 04, 2023, 05:08:22 am »
Is it possible to get ArcaOS to remember video resolution if it is started without the monitor connected?

I have three computers connected to a Samsung S24E659 monitor (1920x1200) via a HDMI KVM switch.  I had to replace my old KVM switch (don't ask but it involved the cat and the dog) that used to auto sense any of the computers being switched on.  The new switch does not do that but the linux computers remember the resolution and not the ArcaOS one, it reverts to 800x600 which means I need to reset it to 1920x1200, reboot and then rearrange the screen icons back to where I have them normally which is a pain, hence my asking this question.
I wouldn't mind if it switched to 1920x1080, that I could live with.

Perhaps using panoutil?
Code: [Select]
PanoUtil 11-Aug-2013 Written by David Azarewicz
For use only when a compatible Panorama is installed
Usage:
  PanoUtil [switches] function
  Switches:
    -v : verbose
  Functions:
    -i : display adapter information
-q : query current MTRR settings
    -p [X Y] [d:] : Set PM resolution to XxY on drive d: (default 800x600)
-r [d:] : Reset custom resolution to default on drive d:
    -d 0|1 [d:] : 0=Disable/1=Enable custom resolution logic on drive d:
    -c X Y [d:] : Set Custom resolution to X Y on drive d:
    -e 0|Clk,H,V,Hbl,Vbl,Hof,Hw,Vof,Vw [d:] : Set custom EDID on drive d:
-s [d:] : Show custom resolution status on drive d:
    -n 0|1 [d:] : Enable/Disable Use Native Resolution on drive d:
    -D n [d:] : Set Custom Desc Number on drive d:
    -m <base> <size> <flag> : Modify specific MTRR
       base is in hex
size is in decimal and must have a k or m suffix
flag is 0 for disable, 1 for enable
       example: PanoUtil -m d0000000 64m 1

Looks like "panoutil -p 1920x1200 X:" (adjust X: to your boot drive) would work. Untested.

Thanks Dave, I will give that a try when I go up the two flights of stairs to get to the computer - oh the joy of living in a vertical house, everything is either upstairs or down stairs, at least it keeps me fit as if walking the dog (a rather large Newfoundland) didn't.
