Maybe you already know this, but each drive has its own ObjectID. For Drive H:, it's "<WP_DRIVE_H>". You can use this to assign a specific icon to any drive(s) you want.

Hi Rich

Yes I was aware of this. The problem is that everyone uses different drive letters for their RAM Drives. I will assign Drive H and I for the Ram disks icons.  I will try to make people aware that if they use different Ram drives, they will have to go into the bigicons.txt file and edit the two lines

"<WP_DRIVE_H>"                         "ramdisk_80.png"
"<WP_DRIVE_I>"                         "ramdisk_80.png"

and change the H and I to the letters they use.

If they go into the desktop > system setup > wplace shell and change the Ram drives to H and I, they will need to save and then shut down ArcaOS for the changes to take effect. A reboot will not work.  This may be because I had

If possible, preserve contents after a warm boot checked.

If they don't use ram drives, or they don't care about the icon reflecting what type of drive it is, they will need to put a ; in front of the statement ot make it a comment.

;"<WP_DRIVE_H>"                         "ramdisk_80.png"
;"<WP_DRIVE_I>"                         "ramdisk_80.png"

I tried

;"<WP_DRIVE_*>"

but that did not work.

It would  e nice if the RAMDISK could be included in the drives info.  This is how a the network drive is determined in the bigicons.txt file.

;.....................................
[DRIVE]
;......................................
"FLOPPY3"                     "media-floppy_80.png"
"FLOPPY3EXT"               "media-floppy_80.png"
"FLOPPY5"                     "media-floppy_80.png"
"FLOPPY5EXT"               "media-floppy_80.png"
"FLOPPY8"                     "media-floppy_80.png"
"FLOPPY8EXT"               "media-floppy_80.png"
"CDROM"                       "media-optical.png"
"HDD"                           "drive-harddisk_80.png"
"REMOTE"                     "drive-network_80.png"
"REMOVABLE"        "media-flash-usbpendrive_80.png"

It would be nice to  be able to add a

"RAMDISK"                     "RAMDISK_80.png"

so the system could determine a drive is a Ramdisk and use the appropriate png file.

This is a new theme - BigIcons_Brown

This contains the new Ramdisk icon and the updated BigIcons.txt file.

If you want to use the Ramdisk icon in your other themes, copy it's bigicons.txt file to the other themes along with it media-ramdisk_80.png

Presently, there is no way in ArcaOS to set hard drives to where a RAM disk is automatically recognized and the appropriate drive letter assigned to a specific icon.

BigIcons does allow one to manually set drive letters for RAM drives when Dynamic icons are activated in the Workplace Shell setup icon located in the System Setup folder.

In the BigIcons.txt file found in each theme, look for the lines

;---------------Drive folder icons -- (desktop\computer\drives)
"<WP_DRIVES>"                    "folder_drives_closed.png","folder_drives_open.png"
"<WP_DRIVE_A>"                         "media-floppy_80.png"
"<WP_DRIVE_B>"                         "media-floppy_80.png"
"<WP_DRIVE_S>"                         "media-cd_80.png"
"<WP_DRIVE_T>"                         "media-cd_80.png"
"<LVMREFRESH>"                         "media-LVM_refresh_80.png"
"<PDP_SMARTPFA>"                       "drive-harddisk.png"
"<WP_BOOT>"                            "media-floppy_80.png"

;"<WP_DRIVE_H>"                         "media-ramdisk_80.png"
;"<WP_DRIVE_I>"                         "media-ramdisk_80.png"

The semi-colon is used to comment out the two lines for RAM drive icons.  To enable the RAM disk icon to be used, just remove the semi-colon.  The default ramdrive letters are H and I.  Change these to the drive letters you use, or open the ramdisk setup icon in the System Setup folder and change the Ramdrive to H and I, save, and restart desktop.

If you use only one ramdisk, remove the semi-colon statement from only one of the ramdisk statements and change to the ramdisk drive letter you use.

"<WP_DRIVE_X>"                         "media-ramdisk_80.png"

If you don't use a ramdisk or you prefer the default harddrive icon, you need do nothing.

I decided to make separate System Setup Folder  options icons.  That way if you do not like the default set, you just unzip the theme you want to try to a temporary directory and then copy them over the icons in the theme folder you want changed.  If you don't like, just repeat with a different theme set.  These packages also contain icon corrects for the icons used in the setup folder.

Always restart the desktop after an icon(s) change.

Just doodling again.

Made another System_Setup_Folder Grey Theme called Grey2.

Just unzip and copy over the chosen themes icons with these and restart desktop.  If you do not like, copy the Standard Grey theme over them or one of the other themes over them.

Hello

I have an issue with DynamicIcons (aka BigIcons). I enable it by:
- SET BIGICONSPATH=
- Going to "System Setup -> Workplace Shell -> Icon Size tab -> "Use Custom Icons"

Now the issue: I like the PNG icon themes, I want to keep it, but it blocks me from seeing the .ICO on the desktop. I'm attaching the after and before pics.
Is there a way to disable just the display of the .ICO PNG Image so I can keep seeing the actual .ICO on the desktop?

Yeah, I know, you can't make the entire world happy  ;D ;D

Hello. I think I found the answer myself.

I just removed ""*.ico"                "image_file_80.png"" from the bigicons.txt file, rebooted and good to go.

Make another Orange System Setup folder theme which can be used to replace an existing theme inside the main BigIcons theme folders.

This can be done for individual folders.

Open the folder that contains the OS/2 icons.
Right click inside the folder (white empty space) to bring up the menu.
Select Icons
Select Normal.

This overrides the system default for that folder.

I did another system folder icon set.  Just unzip and copy to the theme folder that you want the system icons replaced.  Remember the other packages in case if you want the originals back.

Hello David.

I liked this one too. Just two question here:
1) What is the arrow.gfie file?
2) Checking the "Buff themes", do you also include the folder backgrounds? I think I only found the icons, not the backgrounds.

Arrow.gfie ia another type of graphics file.  The file is not used.  I just failed to remove it.  A lot of these themes don't come with backgrounds.  I noticed in linux that they use a lot of dark backgrounds.  There is one background file that goes good with the last two themes.  The last three themes I have done are unique in that most icons have to be redone so the themes don't look like a mess.  It like starting from scratch because most icons have to be renamed, modified or created to match our programs and system.

The drawingboard theme was unique that it came with two backgrounds.  This theme somehow disappeared from the net.  There are partials of people trying to recreate it, but not the original that was on the net over 10 years ago.  If had had not created a version for ecomstation years ago, there would not be much to look at.  It was done in OS/2 icons.  I made PNG equivalents, added more icons that were not included in the original eCS package.

Drawingboard, Umicons, and Buff themes are a way to preserve these themes should they disappear from the net.  In eCS, one could modify just about everything, titlebar, titlebar buttons, buttons, selection buttons, and property backgrounds.  ArcaOS allows some, but not all of this.

Made a quick titlebar and button for Buuf.

the last png shows the background color which is used for its backgrounds.
