Mouse chording in OS/2
« on: January 28, 2024, 01:02:42 am »
I'm trying to find info on how does mouse chording (copy/paste) work in OS/2.

Wikipedia mentions that it is possible to do using OS/2. But gives no specifics.

Example, taken from another OS: To «snarf» (copy), select a word and while holding left mouse button, click right mouse button.
To paste, unselect and place cursor, click then hold left mouse button, click right mouse button.
To Cut, select a word and while holding left mouse button, click middle mouse button.

Cheers!  :)

Copy: Click and hold LMB at start or end of the words to select, move the cursor left or right until the word is selected and then RMB followed by release both button
Past: Click and hold RMB + LMB, release both

Do you use a PS/2 mouse or USB cordless mouse ?
I remember having always done like this since v3

Open an OS/2 cmd prompt window and try under it

It has always worked for me as well, excepting the cut part, testing, it seems to work the same as copy.
Open E and test, or even a cmd prompt, where I think you need Mouse Actions active, click on the icon in the upper left of cmd to check if active.

Several ways to copy and paste.

Mouse:
Left click and drag mouse pointer right or left over the text you want to copy.
Right click mouse to bring up menu.
Select COPY.
Select the location you want to paste to and left click
Right click to bring up menu and select PASTE.
or
Left click the location you want to paste to.
Click both right and left mouse buttons at the same time to PASTE.

Left click and drag the mouse pointer right or left over the text you want to copy.
Keyboard: Ctrl + Insert      > to copy
shift + delete    > to cut
Shift + Insert     > to paste

Still doesn't work. I know about the CUA keyboard shortcuts. I use them daily.

I have tried 3x USB mice's. But I fear that the problem is that I am running under Virtual Box 7. I have a serial 3 buttons mouse but no way to connect it. I will try to get my old laptop back up and try there.

Thank you for replies (Remy, Dave and David.) Appreciated.

Edit: Paste works (Warp4.5.2 under VB7) But I have to select Copy from Edit menu, or CTRL+Insert, first. Then click and hold and release both.

I've been using OS/2 for two decades and this is the first time I am aware of this feature. 🤔

Are you trying to use this in a virtual machine?  If so how the mouse reacts depends on how well the additions have been programmed.

Clicking both right and left mouse buttons at the same time to PASTE here only works with E, not with WordPro and not with ME-Editor. MED or EPM at least..

It works here with Firefox, Seamonkey, Smalled text editor, and e.exe .  It does not appear to work with program developement editors such as EPM and STE.

There is one more option, which I use.  Select what you want to copy, left button and drag it to where you want to copy to.  This works with some parts of Firefox, but not all.
