3 in1 Drag&Drop Mozilla install script !
« on: April 01, 2014, 08:37:08 am »
Firefox, Thunderbird and Seamonkey - Drag&Drop install script!

I got sick of installing Firefox manually, so I wrote this script. Just drop any Firefox zip file on the object and it automatically unzips and installs Firefox. It has two options, 1) update existing installation and 2) specify install location for Firefox !

The latest version of FirefoxDD v.017b:

1) FirefoxDD: which adds advanced install options for FF, TB & SM - including backups and RUN! - switched the versioning to match the level of latest Firefox supported.

Download the script here: http://os2notes.net/os2firefoxdd.html

Updated to v.017b

Simple install option:
- Keeps file associations intact
- Backups previous installation
- Now handles Firefox, Thunderbird & Seamonkey
- Includes the latest required DLLs

Advanced install option:
- Now handles Firefox, Thunderbird & Seamonkey
- Optional backup of the previous version
- Specify location for installation
- RUN! is now included - auto setup has now been added.

Cheers,

Greggory

Hi Greggory, just tested your script. I keep my Mozilla executables in f:\mozilla so I unzipped the package to f:\mozilla\FirefoxDD-017b, ran the install cmd, edited the script so MozDir = f:\mozilla and dragged the file firefox-17.0.11esr.en-US.os2.zip and dropped it on the FirefoxDD Drag&drop icon. All I get is a quick flicker of the command window and nothing seems to be installed. What am I missing?

I did the same thing, but forgot to correct the comment - add single quotes around the path, sorry !

MozDir = 'f:\mozilla'

And it's at version 024b uploaded now use that one: http://os2notes.net/files/firefoxdd/

I noticed the last prompt says it installing to a different directory 'c:\programs' still - fixed that.  It will install to MozDir = 'f:\mozilla' any ways.

REMEMBER it makes a backup and deletes the original directory. So, MozDir = f:\mozilla\firefox is altered! just in case you added something non-standard to that directory.

I should have noticed the lack of quotes  :)
Couple of observations. I used the advanced install option and chose f:\mozilla\firefox for destination, Firefox actually was installed in f:\mozilla\firefox\firefox. It needs to be clearer that it is asking for the parent or changed so that the user chooses the final install directory.
It would be nice if there was also an icon for safe mode as well,  firefox.exe -safe-mode. Same for TB and SM.
When using run!, K can be a waste of memory and perhaps a choice,  L should perhaps be there by default as the idea of using run! is to allow multiple browsers, email clients etc to co-exist without causing SYS2070's. I also like G to log everything.
I haven't tested SeaMonkey, hopefully you have an icon for mail and/or news.
Thanks for the work.
