Is FixPak 5 for WSeB 4.52 available anywhere?

<< < (2/3) > >>

Ian B Manners:
Hi Richard,

Fixpacks were the same for the OS/2 Convenience Packages and WSeB, IBM did not want to keep seperate trees at that stage.

xr_c005 & xr_c006 both exist, though not for public posting as they were Software Choice Subscriptions only. These days you would look at ArcaOS which includes the fixes.

FP5 (xr_c005) for WSeB was the last official one, FP6 (xr_c006) does exist but my notes on it are:

--- Quote ---This is not officially released, didnt even make it to the ALPHA stage and there have been reports that it is very unstable. Best to stick with FP5 with updated pmmerge.dll file.

Chuck McKinnis Notes:

--- Quote ---The Object Rexx updated shipped in Fixpack 3 appears to cause problems with several Rexx-based applications.  This update will backout that update to the previous level of Object Rexx.

Other users have reported problems with the PMMERGE.DLL module shipped in Fixpack 5.  This update will backout that update to the Fixpack 4 level of PMMERGE.DLL.

fp5_up target_drive update_option
target_drive is letter (with semi-colon) of the drive to be updated
update_option is the update to be applied, rexx (OREXX.DLL) or merge
  (pmmerge.dll).

RTAN:
Thanks for everyone's replies. The version I have installed is reporting itself as Build level 14.089 so it makes sense that FP3 won't install since that's Build level 14.088 according to the Readme.1st document.

Those notes are interesting Chuck since it mentions a problem reported in FP3 that wasn't addressed until FP6 (the Object Rexx problem).

Running syslevel.exe I get:

--- Code: ---SYSLEVEL.WSB
Convenience Package - OS/2 Warp Server for e-business
Version 4.52
Current CSD level: XR04502
Prior CSD level: XR04501
--- End code ---

But there isn't a prior level - this was installed as-is from media downloaded from WinworldPC

Then further down (i.e. a after a few presses of the [Enter] key I get:

--- Code: ---SYSLEVEL.OS2
Convenience Package - OS/2 Warp Server for e-business
Version 4.52
Current CSD level: XR04503
Prior CSD level: XR04503
--- End code ---

And ver /r reports:

--- Code: ---The Operating System/2 Version is 4.50
Revision 14.089
--- End code ---

So it looks like the WinworldPC media has FP3 slipstreamed (to use a Microsoft phrase), I guess that was the last publicly available version but it's interesting that even FP4 (publicly released) doesn't appear to be available anywhere.

It's just a curiosity - obviously I'm not bothered by it per se, I just find it interesting that in all this time a Fixpak that was only available by Software Choice hasn't been made available (or uploaded to Archive.org) by someone who may have had it through their work.

Thanks for the responses and additional detail, it's always great to increase one's knowledge of these things!

Richard.

Dave Yeo:
Actually, I think IBM had 4.51 and simply applied the fixpack, perhaps with other fixes, to create 4.52

khadmin:
Both CP1 and CP2 was released as a full package which was installed on-top of existing system so was never released as FP and just quickly checked CP2 which has a note about this:

WSeb C-Pak2 migration is supported only over a corresponding
C-Pak1 system. Otherwise, you must format the operating system
     partition.

Doug Clark:
RTAN - not sure if this fits your needs - but I am running the networking part of WSeB on top of AOS 5.1.  I think this might address fix pak issues - assuming those issues are related to the operating system rather than the networking/LAN server part.  Alex Taylor has an install program and instructions for how to do this.  You can do this with  the WSeB networking on eCS or any version of AOS .  After you install the operating system, without networking, Alex's program requires the WSeB CD and it installs the networking components from that CD.
