OS/2 on ARM64 CPU - No Problem! - Surface Pro 11

Sigurd Fastenrath:
If you want to follow my notes, how easy it was to install OS/2 in a virtual Machine with 86Box at an ARM64 Device, please read here:

https://www.os2.org/viewtopic.php?t=4197

(German, Online Translator needed)

So, the Thesis: ARM can not emulate/virtualize x86 is proofed to be wrong. ;)

All the best!

Sigurd Fastenrath:
There is a hint on reddit for a 86Box for Windows on Arm64 Beta:

https://github.com/ArminiusTux/WinARM64-binaries/releases/tag/86Box

I am going to test this as well.

Neil Waldhauer:
Thanks for testing with X86Box. I am curious about some things.

1. Is there a mouse/keyboard integration issue? Can I move the mouse between host OS and guest OS?
2. OS/2 Warp 3 is promising. The website also shows OS/2 Warp 4. Can it run ArcaOS?
3. Is this also a possibility for the Mac? If so, which Mac CPU is supported?

Hi Neil,

here are my answers:

1. Mouse and keyboard are working stable, once I selecte Microsoft Serial Mouse at COM1 at the configuration. I have not found a Mouse Integration so far, to use it inside 86Box I have to simple click in the window, to Release it I have to use the keys ALT+ESC

2. I did not test ArcaOS by now, but why should it not work (at least all versions before 5.1) ? I tried Windows 98 yesterday and the installation started with no problem. I may test ArcaOS later, that may take some time, as I focus inside VMS on "pure" OS/2 releases (2.0 -> 4.52) for now.

3. as I do not have a Mac, I can not help here. But as my best guess I would say Yes, with the special MAC OS port it should work the same way, but that is a guess

By the way: it is quite need to use OS/2 Warp 3 on this OLED Device in Fullscreen, using the wireless Flexkeyboard and its Touchpad!  8) ;) :D

Martin Iturbide:
Thanks Sigurd for this topic

I had also check out some other information about 86Box, Jamie Honnaker gave me permission to include also his configuration on the wiki:
- https://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php?title=Install_and_Run_IBM_OS/2_Warp_3_Connect_in_86Box

I didn't get it first, but the trick was to run the machine and got to "Tools-Settings" to customize it (Picture attached), I will be trying to learn more about it.

Regards
