hobbesarchive.com FTP
« on: February 07, 2025, 08:06:19 pm »
I'd like to use conventional FTP to upload the new version of XWP but all attempts so far have failed. The site's 'Upload policy' page demands that you use FTP but doesn't bother to tell you how to log in. Emails sent to 'webmaster' and 'support' @hobbesarchive.com a couple of days ago seeking guidance have gone unanswered.

I tried logging in using the standard 'anonymous/<email>' name/pword but that failed. I then created an account for the site and confirmed it would log me in to the website, but it failed when used for FTP. I'm aware that there's an upload page but I've got 14 WPIs and 14 ready-to-go "template" files and would like to avoid having to copy/paste all this stuff.

What's a guy to do?

Hello Rich

As far as I know there is no way to upload to HobbesArchive via ftp. I think that the "Upload Policy" page was copied from the old Hobbes and may be outdated.

You may ask Nathan on this mailing list: https://warp.groups.io/g/HobbesArchive

If you like to have it available on ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/xworkplace/ you need to upload via webdav. netlabs.org also don't allow ftp uploads anymore.

Hello

Rich. If you want, post the <upload>.txt files here inside a .zip file and I will upload the files one at a time.

Thank you for the offer but I've taken care of it. The files are in /pub/incoming but not yet cataloged.

So how does one upload to Hobbes?

I just downloaded cadaver and tried to connect to hobbesarchive.com and was not successful.

On the top of the page you should see an "Upload" item. Just click on it and you will be presented a form to input relevant data and upload the file. It is almost 100% identical to the old Hobbes upload form (just lacks the .txt file you'd attach to the compressed file on the original Hobbes site).

Perfect!

Thanks for pointing out the obvious - which I probably would never noticed on my own.

Hello Rich

I had to do something with the xwp files in Hobbes. It seemed to have some kind of limitation uploading .exe (as far as I understood).

I had to bundle the "full" and "lite" in a zip file with the languages. I located those here:

It is what I can do for the moment.

WTF???  I know you _think_ you're being helpful but you're NOT!

If you actually wanted to help, you would have emailed me or posted something here letting me know of the problem. But no, you had to come up with the worst possible solution. Why???

When I'm done with this rant, I will implement the *correct* solution: I will rename all the files to *.WPI and re-upload them. Meanwhile, please delete those zips.

No, Martin, there is a BIG problem: your arrogance. You did a lousy job of "fixing" something that was none of your business, then you act like I have no reason to complain? Where's your apology?

Came on Rich, you are a man of certain age and you don't need to go further with this crazy file rant and now talk about my "arrogance".

I prefer to apologize and see you go happy.
