WPS-Wizard Installation Fails in ArcaOS
Lars:
"sc.exe -shh wpfolder.idl" creates "wpfolder.hh"
"sc.exe -shh wppgm.idl" creates "wppgm.hh"
The bigger problem is that the "DirectToSOM" feature (using .hh files) forces you to use VAC 3.08 as the only compiler that supports "DirectToSOM".
VAC 3.65 does not support it, neither does VAC 4.0 nor Watcom nor Borland ...
I don't think it is worth the effort. It's a dead end and WPWizard will likely continue to conflict with XWorkplace as WPS class replacement can be tricky if other libraries replace the same WPS class or ancestor thereof. Even the sequence of WPS class installation can matter (do you install XWorkplace first and then WPS Wizard or the other way around ...).
Pete:
Hi All
I am surprised that Martin actually got this software running at all. That is something I could not achieve over around a year of trying - even when working with Chris to try to resolve various problems. The main problem being that a few seconds after system had started up it simply locked up requiring Power Off to restart. After several months of trying Chris told me my system was at fault and refused to continue debugging. Not impressed!
If there is a vote to restart development of this software Please register mine as NO - there are far more important things needed than some software that simply was not working when it was released and the writer could not be bothered to sort out the bugs.
The more important things needed? - a current fully *working* browser for starters, which I appreciate some people are working on and Thank You to them for their efforts to date.
Regards
Pete
Martin Iturbide:
Thanks Lars, and Dave for taking a look at the source code and share your insights.
Pete, I get your point of view that they are more important things like a modern browser. But on the case of WPS-Wizard I like the idea of the "window toolbar" that it has. But it seems that WPS-Wizard source code can be used more like learning sample instead of continuing this project because of the "DirectToSOM" dependency that Lars says.
Just as a note, the good thing about these times is that with VMs a fast bugfixing can be done with compromising an OS/2 full install in real hardware. Again, I do not recommend installing this on a production/important machine, I just did it on a testing VM that can roll back very easily.
Regards
