Updated qt5 files?
« on: March 08, 2025, 05:29:14 pm »
Hi All

Following an ArcaOS 5.1.0 to 5.1.1 upgrade - possibly some files got backlevelled - I can no longer get dooble qt5 to run at all, it traps on starting. The exceptq log shows a problem with QT5WEBC.DLL (09/25/2021).

I seem to recall there were some updated qt5 bits posted on os2world but I cannot seem to find them. Can someone point me to the post(s) involved - might be useful to get the latest dooble and any related files as well...

Thanks

Pete

The updated Qt5 libs are at ftp://dry@ftp.os2voice.org/tmp/Qt5libs-2025-01-09.zip
These only have a small change to fix the Window Title and are unlikely to make a difference. I'd suggest starting by installing one of the Dooble_Qt5 rpm's at ftp://ftp.os2voice.org/rpm/ you may have to enable netlabs-exp

Hi Dave

Applying the above qt5 libs and updating dooble to dooble-2025-02-20-qt5.zip seems to have helped - oh,your above ftp.os2voice.org/rpm url does not work, gives a 550 cannot change directory.

I'm now looking for the update that allows dooble to load local html files...

Regards

Pete

Sorry, the url should have been ftp://dry@ftp.os2voice.org/rpm/
Not sure about an update that allowed loading local html files. Most of the Dooble's I've built are on the ftp site.
Now I'm trying to remember if we ever had a fix for the broken file open, eg the latest fails with file not found when trying to open a HTML file, the URL  bar shows file:///H:/tmp/search.html which seems to have one too many / after file:
Simplebrowser has the same problem.

Hi Dave

I think the dooble qt5 fix that allowed dooble to load local html files was the result of Paul fixing that problem in qt6 ...
I know that the fix exists as I have the bookmarks.html file listed as a dooble favorite which would not be possible without having loaded the bookmark file.

I think the qt5 version of the fix is at https://github.com/bitwiseworks/qtwebengine-chromium-os2/issues/50

Thanks for the reminder. I've been suffering the winter blues with lack of motivation. Also had to revert to an older backup :(
I've uploaded ftp://dry@ftp.os2voice.org/tmp/Qt5WebC.7z as a backup. It does work

I've also uploaded the latest Dooble release to the same directory (tmp/) for testing, both Qt5 and Qt6 builds.

No problem, I only remembered when I went looking for the qt6 patch, then saw the link to the bww repo.

Hi All

Thanks to Dave and Paul dooble-2025-02-28-Qt5 now running about as well as it ever did ie avoid any sites using lots of javascript as that seems to crash dooble pretty quick.

Hi Pete, helps to import the block and filter lists. At least they'll stop a lot of ads and such which often have too much crappy JavaScript.
These were updated with the latest release by upstream,
ftp://dry@ftp.os2voice.org/dooble/dooble_accepted_or_blocked_domains.zip
ftp://dry@ftp.os2voice.org/dooble/dooble_filter.zip

Hi Dave

Thanks for those but I am having trouble getting dooble to import the dooble_filter file, dooble simply crashes; ie does not respond to any clicks and cannot be killed. Yes, I know it can take a couple of minutes to import the file but 40 minutes later...
No problem importing the accepted/blocked file.

Pete

Strange, guess you're running out of memory, or maybe a profile problem. They import fine here, does take a few minutes.

Hi Dave

I tried a new profile with no success - dooble simply crashes after a few minutes of trying to import the dooble_filter file.

There does not seem to be anything wrong with the file, opens in e.exe with no problems, so can only guess that something in the qt5/*nixy support files may not be at the correct level. I doubt it is memory related as dooble behaves the same when the system is rebooted and dooble is the only app started.
