HP Deskjet 3635 need a workable driver
Pete:
Hi klipp
Might be easier to "walk" you through creating a printer as it seems something went wrong on your previous attempt(s).
With CUPS Daemon running and Printer powered on:-
1] Start Computer -> Printers -> Install Printer
2] Select Install a local or network printer (CUPS-based) and click Next
3] The "Create CUPS Printer" window should appear, select HP then select Deskjet 3630 Series hpijs and click Next
4] The printer should then be detected and displayed, make sure it is selected and click Next
5] Complete Printer Name and Location then click Next
6] The "Confirm Create Printer" window appears, Make sure Create Pinter is checked then click Create
7] Close the Create Printer dialog
You should end up with a printer with the correct driver for the Deskjet 3630 Series in the Printers folder
A simple test: open a browser and load http://localhost:631/printers then click on your printers name. The next page has a dropdown box called Maintenance, select Print Test Page from that dropdown list.
Let us know if the above worked for you.

Hey Pete! Still on printing but at least we know whats going on now. All print jobs are being witheld apparantly because there is no color manager! I took this printer off my server where it worked fine but never used color. I put a new color cartridge in but still dott work, Color Doesnt work, I never used color on my server -- uugggghh! So I;ll put it back on my server and get a new non-HPPrinter. What are you using for printing? I;;ve had it with HP Printers. seems non of them feed paper properly.
That website you suggestd for testing a installition is really neet . Thanks for suggesting it, It
pointd out the problem!. I don;t know what to buy as a replacment for OS2 printer, any ideas?
Appologies and thanks for your help, turns out as usual "self inflicted disaster"

Good day Klipp,
With my printer – Brother MFC-9970CDW – I had to activate lprportd in the TCP/IP settings.
I used a printer driver from a Linux package and integrated it into the system via CUPS.
Without lprportd, the printer showed no interest at all.
Now it prints beautifully – in both colors and shapes!
Many thanks to everyone.
Wishing you all the best and much success!

Might I propose a Brother printer that uses the BRScript postscript - You can then use Alex Taylor's PSprint driver which saves messing about with cups. Both my Brother printers (DCP-9020cdw and HL-3170cdw are quite happy with it on my network using the internal BR-Script interface.

Hi klipp
I'm using a HP Envy Photo 6234 which works very well for printing with cups/hplip and scanning with sane/hpaio.
I think the message you get about no color manager could be a "red herring". I seem to recall a similar problem years ago with a Canon printer but cannot remember the exact fix, very possibly there was something missing in the cups setup at that time.
I suggest that you get a cups debug log and post it here and, hopefully, with a few people looking through it the problem may get spotted.
Did you try creating a printer following instructions in my previous post? - might be worth a try.
Regards
Pete
