CUPS and Print Manager
« on: September 01, 2025, 11:41:43 pm »
Hi All!

Labour Day is upon us in Canada - where did the summer go?

Been an extremely busy year for me, advising, with others up here, related to joint international Emergency Management policies for our Federal government, based on some issues occurring down south, which are affecting cross border response.

Finally having a break, I wanted to address yet another interesting problem I've ran into, this time related to CUPS.

Like always, I'm looking for some guidance as to where to look for a solution, as most people in this forum know I'm a self starter - I have a wide format HP OfficeJet 7612 printer that can print up to A3 size paper, which I also use as my office scanner and fax device, when needed.

The part I'm trying to get to work under ArcaOS is printing itself with the 7612 - as background, I did have a previous 7612 which finally had a problem, it seems, with the printer control board, and which I had to retire from service - getting another, new, still in the unopened box unit, I was able to setup the printer on my network to run on most of my Windows and ArcaOS computers. However, on one partition, undertaking the normal set-up under Print Manager for CUPS, the most current HP printer listings seem to be missing -  in the other partition on the system (I always keep two OS/2 partitions on each system, in case a partition fails), the listing is present for "OfficeJet7610 series" which is the correct driver for the printer unit. However, even though I've setup the 7612 on this partition before, for some reason the device list has regressed for some reason.

As I have the complete listing on Printer Manager on the other partition, I was wondering if anyone can tell me which CUPS file(s) contain the complete listings and drivers for all the printers currently supported by CUPS on ArcaOS - I wanted to see if there was an easy way to transfer the info to the affected partition,  or whether someone had any idea as to why the listing regressed, so I could update it in some other way.

Going through localhost:631 on a browser, cups 2.2.13 comes up, which seems to be the most current version - however trying to install from there also seems to have the regressed listing of HP printers on this partition.

I have ArcaOS 5.1 on the partition which was upgraded from 5.0.8 without a fresh install (used the upgrade option).

As always any bright ideas (or any others for that matter) accepted and Best!

Hi Mark

ArcaOS 5.1.1 and cups 2.2.13 plus hplip printer (and hpaio scanner) drivers.

I started the Create a Printer process and see
  OfficeJet 7610 Series
  OfficeJet 7610 Series hpijs
listed in HP drivers.

I am wondering if you have hplip installed? - is that what is missing?

Pete

Heh Pete! Long time no talk

Yup. That was the problem

Checking ANPM, hplip-common and hplip-libs were installed, but not hplip

Checking Manage Printers the files I need are listed now.

Thanks as always, Sir and Best!
