My personal choice is also "Object Desktop". I think that the Workplace Shell can benefit of some of the code/ideas of it.

There is a nice article on Wikipedia about SlickEdit. Apparently it's author also wrote the E editor while at IBM. This is a good choice for at least some support for OS/2 users, because the author will know what OS/2 is.
