WarpStock Question for Speakers
« on: October 14, 2014, 07:42:33 pm »
Hi.

The WarpStock countdown started for me. I'm finishing my presentation and also looking forward to be there.

But I want to get your feedback if you have any question for the speakers. I will try my best to ask as much as a can to everyone.

Do you have any question for the following speakers?:
- John Edwards
- Lewis Rosenthal
- Martin Iturbide ....I guess you can answer more in this forum..
- Menso de Jong
- Jan van Wijk
- Lars Erdmann
- Gregg Young
- Robert Kuropkat
- Paul Smedley  ...well, he also hangs out here a lot.
- Neil Waldhauer .... he also hangs out over here.
- Andy Willis
- David Azarewicz

Let me know what do you think. I will be consolidating the questions to take them with me.

Questions to Menso de Jong -
- is there any update in the last 3/4 year which justify the money I spent for eCS Software Subscription?
- is there any update we can expect within the next 3 months?
- will he give me back my money as obviously there is no activity from Mensys in improving eCS since a year or so?
- will he allow developers like me to work on SNAP source code as Mensys has bought the rights to do so?
- will Mensys ask IBM to make available the 14.106 SMP debug kernel.

Thanks for sharing.

This are my questions for Menso:
- What is the relationship with XEU, did XEU bought Mensys or viceversa?
-  The new XEU site (http://www.xeu.com/) seems to be a store/software distribuitor, just like Mensys, are they compiting?, or the Mensys.nl site is going to eventually merge there?
- Why Mensys/XEU haven't said much since december 2013 when we noticed that XEU showed up as the company that brands eComStation? There had been an apparent lack of progress on eComStation since Dec of 2013
- What is going on with OS2eZine? It had been down for some time.
- What is the involvement that Mensys/XEU is going to have with the community. There are no community managers or spokeman from Mensys/XEU to the community.

I also received a question for Lars:
- Is there a plan for USB 3 support. Is there any requirements needed to have USB 3.0 supported and anything that can assist him to reach this goal.

Martin, will you discuss this

with Menso face to face. Maybe Mensys can transfer the SNAP license for source code to Lewis Arca Noae. As Mensys obviously does not and did not anything with the source code it seems Arca Noae can manage this topic better.

We really need better graphic support and extending SNAP seems to be the easiest way to get them.

SNAP is a good topic,  because since July of 2011 we didn't hear anything more about it.

Check Mensys announcement: http://www.os2world.com/past-news/80-software/18469-

Hi Paul,

thanks, listened to it the last night - it is really great to get so much bakcground information.

Because of my english knowledge I was not able to understand the plans/Problems with UNIAUD in the of your Video. As I am playing aorund with the Sony Vaio Pro 13 with Intel HDA Audio - what do you think - is there a Chance to get an updated UNIAUD in general?

Thanks again and keep going your excellent work!

Sigurd

I have no specific plans any time soon to work on Uniaud. My comments in the presentation were just to warn that maintenance is getting more difficult due to:
a) The use of Open Watcom on OS/2 vs GCC on *nix - The ALSA code uses some gcc extensions which don't work in OW so necessitate source changes
b) The fact that the ALSA code is no longer available as a standalone download, it's now part of the kernel source.

Hope this helps clarify. I hadn't really planned to talk about future plans for Uniaud, but one thing lead to another whilst I was talking :)

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Sigurd.

If I'm recalling correctly David Azarewicz (from Arca Noae) made several announcement of his progress with several drivers.  I need to sit down and try to organize the information in a better way.

But about to UNIAUD, he told that needs to clean the source code of it. His goal is to make it in a way that it will be easy on the future to add portions of code of newer devices fast (this is what I understood) to make a driver that can be easily updated.   He said that it is 20% complete, but he can not say exactly when it is going to have it complete. His priorities is to have something but he had been working on the network drivers first USB and ACPI. So, it will be a longer while for he to update Uniaud.

He also said that a new ACPI will be released in days, when the Arca Noae site/shop get ready.

Warning: This is what I understood from his conference via Skype.

I'll be very interested to see how this progresses. There are definite opportunities to share code on the linux api implementation side of things between multimac and uniaud, however my personal opinion (happy to be wrong) is that the alsa core is not so trivial to update.

I think there are also some opportunities in uniaud16 (which implements the mmpm interface)
