Arca Noae - just got my business!!!

<< < (3/4) > >>

Andreas Schnellbacher:
David made the ReadMe files available for his projects on the Wiki pages.

There are new versions with a few changes of ACPI, USB, Multimac (NVETH) and Multimac (E1000E).

Packages use either WarpIN or scripts (IIRC) to install on all OS/2 4.5 versions, not only on eCS. Additional update packages are available, according to the ReadMes.

That subscription will expire at some point in time....

Thanks for the explanation, Lewis,  :) !

--- Quote from: guzzi on November 23, 2014, 02:00:24 am ---There is another point to consider. There have been -no- updates from Mensys for a long time. So what is the value of their software subscription? As far as I can see, all they do now is sell eCS licenses. For maintenance, we have to look elsewhere. I might, if I need an additional licence, buy one at Mensys. I will not renew my software subscription there because basically Arca Noae now provides what mensys used to provide plus some additional things. No double subscription needed. The only thing apart from licences that Mensys still has, afak, is SNAP and possibly the licence to Flash, but since BWW announced they would update Flash, it looks like Mensys doesn't own the rights to that port. It looks to me that apart from selling additional licences to corporate customers Mensys doesn't have much to offer.

In fact, this might sound better: stop the Mensys's subscription and choose the Arca Noae one:
I basically have all eCS (from 1.0 to 2.0 and even the old OS/2 Warp 4:52) licenses. It is not officially said, but it is now evident that eCS is dead.
Shame, because it was a good logo and an excellent slogan for the old OS/2 Warp..do you remember? the first one in 2000 was "electronic Communication Station".

There are, and they all seem to work well, but the USB update has broken support for video cameras, that Wim Brule created (it is supposed to be included). You can use his usbres01.zip package to restore it to working order. (Reported).

Good looking web site, with a simple interface and no clutter. That makes it MUCH better than about 99% of web sites, anywhere. I am sure there are still a few things to work out, but it is an excellent start.

Well done, to all involved.

Lewis Rosenthal:
Thanks for the compliment, Doug!

I'm sorry to hear about the webcam issue with the USB driver package. I did note your ticket, and I'm sure that David will follow up in due course. We are working closely with all of the known people involved in the USB stack, and do appreciate Wim's excellent contributions. I can't say whether this was merely a packaging thing or something else, but as I say, I'm sure David will address it.

The site development was a lot of fun. Much of the latest stuff on the net these days uses these (blasted, IMO) icon fonts, which we don't (usually) render on OS/2 (yet). Arca Noae's main site is built on WordPress, of course, and it was no exception. We pushed hard to get rid of all non-backward-compatible UI components, as we realize that our main audience likely consists of people accessing the site from OS/2-based devices (though it's nice to know that the theme seems to be fairly well behaved for mobile devices, too).

Anyway, I finally killed off the last of the icon fonts which were bugging me on the home page, and adjusted the text on the (somewhat obscure) "hero" button (under the graphic of the hand with the wrench, which used to read, "BE THE FIRST TO TRY" followed by an icon font for a ">"). The text is now more apropos, I think (and I'm personally leaving that tease in this post so that folks will become curious enough to have a look). Yes, that is really a button. Click it!

The last one on the home page was down below, in the blog section. Commonly called the "read more" tag by WordPress designers, ours read "Read on >" with the ">" another of those annoying little buggers. I just tweaked it to the more traditional, "Read more" link.

If anyone finds any more non-rendering images (or broken links), please use the contact page to send us a note.

Meanwhile, we at Arca Noae really do appreciate your business and your feedback!

Cheers

When you do something right, people notice. Maybe not as much as when you do it wrong, but it gets you more compliments.   ;D

David does wonderful work. I suspect that he just doesn't have a web cam to play with.
