Hi Leo,  as a matter of interest just how are you printing to a print server and what server are you using?
Ivan,

I print to a printserver (an old Linksys) using SLPR printerports.
BTW the printers are not postscript printers.

Leo

Printing to my HP-laser seems to work fine, but I'm using a pscript driver.

And eCUPS probably.

Leo

Thanks Leo,

I dug up an old Trendnet print server we have and hooked it up to our HP CLJ 3500 printer and for the first time I actually got a response from it from OS/2 - even if it dis just say PCL XL error.  Up to now we have been trying to use the print server in one of our NAS boxes without success - the print server does not wake up the box.

Now all I have to do is find out what the error is all about and if I can fix it.

Hi Leo

In my experience cups works fine with print servers - even wireless print servers - whatever makes you think it does not?

I have no experience of using laserjet.drv so no idea what the problem is.

If your laser printers are postscript capable maybe you could try switching to using the pscript.drv.

Pete

Hi Pete,

CUPS simply won't print to my network printers. I use the LPD protocol.
It is known, see http://www.os2world.com/forum/index.php/topic,631.msg5951.html#msg5951
Without CUPS no problem except AOO 4.1.1.1

Leo

Hi Leo

Your link points to my comment that cups cannot "autodetect" my network printer which is the case here.

If that is all the problem is then you could follow my tip for creating a cups printer profile manually which can then be fully configured using the cups browser interface:-

If CUPS does not see your printer then you need to use the Command line to create a basic printer that can be modified using the browser interface.

Open a command line window in \cups\sbin and enter the following command for a network printer:-

   lpadmin -p YourPrinterName -E -v PrinterIP/Port or Queue Name
          eg:-
      lpadmin -p RX585 -E -v socket://192.168.1.251/IP_192.168.1.251
                 or
      lpadmin -p RX585 -E -v lpd://192.168.1.251/lpt1

Hi Pete,

My link points to Paul Smedley's reaction to your post.

I am perfectly happy with printer driver laserjet.drv for my laser printers.

This topic is not about eCUPS but about AOO 4.1.1.1

I cannot print to a laser printer using laserjet.drv anymore from AOO 4.1.1.1
BTW I made a bug report about this, but I do not know if anyone reads that.

Greetings,
Leo
