OS/2 - Locked cursor
« on: November 18, 2015, 07:23:20 am »
I'm runing OS/2 4.52 Warp in Virtual Box 4.1.10.

My cursor has suddenly taken the form of an arrow attached to what looks like a briefcase. The net result is that clicking on folders or any other object results in no action. I can't even close down OS/2 since the mouse click is not actioned - it seems to be locked out of any action. I don't want to just shut down the virtual machine because of any damage I might do to the installation.

Can anyone tell me how to 'unlock' the cursor?

Thanks

You're probably going to have to shutdown the virtual machine. Ideally try to take a snapshot before proceeding, then leave the system quiet for 5 minutes or so and then press the virtual big red button and reboot and let us know if that fixed it. The system should be OK if quiet when you reset it.
(edit) You might try right clicking on a folder such as the desktop and choosing "cancel drag"  first

Ok, well I shut down and I now can't load OS/2.

Fortunately I had a backup of the pre-locked cursor incident so I've restored that and rebooted OK.

I will need to reinstall a couple of things but that's no big deal.

Thanks.

Hi Paul

Welcome to the OS2World forums.

OS/2 has the "Pick Up" functionality on the GUI...check this link, but it is not a normal behavior that they clicking other object do not work anymore. The "Pick up" should not block other mouse action, but we never know when a bug can show up :)

If I right click on an icon on the desktop, and select pickup from the context menu I get the mouse pointer the OP describes. If I then right click on the desktop, and select drop, then I get a menu of actions, including cancel.

Is that what happened?
