Title: Lotus WordPro document alignment
Post by: Neil Waldhauer on December 09, 2020, 03:56:02 pm
I have a lot of Lotus WordPro documents to run the business. The computers in the business run a mix of MCP 2, eCS and ArcaOS.

On some computers, the Lotus WordPro documents are out of alignment. Text that used to fit on a line wraps to a new line.

I think I've tracked this down to a difference in printer drivers. If the driver is LASERJET.HP Laserjet 4, then the document is formatted correctly. If the driver is anything else, for example PSPRINT.HP Color Laserjet Pro M252, or LASERJET.HP Color Laserjet, then some text will be wrapped.

I've attached the Lotus WordPro file to this message. I had to rename the file to .DOC because OS/2 World does not permit .LWP attachments and erases the message if you try.

Yes, under WordPro, the cause is the printer driver.

So there are differences in the presentation.
It has always been like that with me.

For example, I use the Lexmark C792 (PS and PCL6)
Under PCL6 (v2.640) your document will be printed out correctly.
Your document will not be printed correctly under PS (v30.822).

Far too long ago to remember details, but there was something that you needed to do when you switch printer drivers in Lotus (not sure if it was just LWP, or for all Lotus apps). I think the problem was that Lotus remembered the settings, rather than querying the driver every time.

Hopefully, somebody can remember the details.

The printer driver name is assigned to every WordPro document.

A new document contains the default printer.
If the document is printed with a different printer driver and then saved, the document will contain this new printer driver name.

Which printer is active for the current document can be found under:
File> Properties: Documents> Printer

There you can also select a different printer and then save it.
