Multimedia / Re: OS/2 Warp 4.52 VM, changing audio to Uniaud
« on: September 25, 2022, 06:36:47 pm »
Hi

I installed the Warp 4.52 Sound Blaster driver when I created the image with the "Warp 4 Setup and Installation". I search on the CD if there was the Sound Blaster driver alone with the .scr file and I was not able to find it.  Any other tip?

Regards

I Martin, my case of Uniaud installation has the final step to go in the Multimedia Setup panel from System Setup folder. There I found the new tabs for UniAud Wave2 and UniAud Midi 2.  By checking their enabling checkbox you exclude the default Digital and Midi device previously enabled and I think (guess) they mean SB system. That has made Uniaud Drivers having effect on the multimedia system.  Even if, as told in previous post, the resulting sound isn't accettable.

Hi mauro, you need "SET KAI_AUTOMODE=DART" in your environment (config.sys is simplest) to force the Mozilla apps to use DART rather then UNIAUD for sound. UNIAUD is broken as you found.
Edit: Actually the set command should work for any program using libkai for audio.

Hi Dave, in my config.sys I had the two active call sametime
SET KAI_AUTOMODE=DART
SET KAI_AUTOMODE=UNIAUD

so I tried to REM one first, then just one/other, then both.
Rebooted system on each change.
Nothing happened, system sound ok but no audio from video clip.

I believe there is some issue with Virtualbox audio filters.
Thank you

PS in the other UNIAUD thread I read Paul is continuously updating the drivers, I keep using a version downloaded on beginning september

Hi Martin,

You need to edit your MMPM2.INI file to use the new driver. Minstall is what normally does that. First you have to remove the Soundblaster driver using Minstall (tell it 0 cards to remove), then install UniAud using Minstall. Or do it by hand, but it is very tricky and can cause your system to not boot if not done right. Adding/removing sound cards on OS/2 is a true PITA.

Regards,

thanks to your post I have remembered what to do to complete the installation of the Uniaud; running the exe installer of the driver wasn't enough then.

@Martin , with the successful installation now I hear the system sounds but just that. If I run a video either from web or media player I only hear a rippy noise and video play very slowly making Seamonkey (in case of web streaming) almost unusable.

Hi Mauro

I spruced it up a bit today and have attached it below - hope you will find it of some use.

If anyone has any comments related to the guide, let me know and I will update it.

Best!

Mark

Thank to you as well Mark,  very useful job

Ok Mark, applied suggested editing on config.sys and also downloaded-executed UniaudMix.exe v 0.82 ; result is "no Uniaud device found"  This should have something to do with no uniaud16.sys driver available in the MMOS2 folder.  At this point it is clear I'm missing something very trivial, I feel have done all suggested steps:  downloaded-executed the Uniaud installer, replaced the existing files in MMOS2 with the Paul's updated ones, edited config.sys as suggested in your Testing Guide, but at boot the warning complains that uniaud16.sys is not found as per config.sys call (obvious, I know it is missing).  And of course no sound in the system.
Hope to learn next step from some of you.
Thank you meantime.

try:
wic -x u:Uniaud-20211023.exe 1

...and copy uniaud16.sys to x:\mmos2

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Mauro.

I would do it this way.
- Install the full Uniaud using the latest full installer. (ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/uniaud/Uniaud-20211023.exe)
- Check everything is fine on the VM
- Later install the latest devbuild that Paul's offers here.

Regards

Done,
in VM settings Windows Direct Sound as driver host , and ICH AC97 as controller

and also added
DEVICE=C:\MMOS2\UNIAUD32.SYS
DEVICE=C:\MMOS2\UNIAUD16.SYS /C

statement in config.sys as per Mark's how-to indications.

When VM boots, I get the message "The system cannot find the file C:\MMOS2\UNIAUD16.SYS"
infact no such file there. I expected it was at least installed by the Uniaud-20211023.exe execution.
Must be there?
Paul's patch does not have this file in the Zip folders, only 32 version which I copied in C:\MMOS2 .
So, no sound in VM (Warp 4.52) by these steps

Enable serial port in Virtualbox, and there's an option to save the serial port output to a text file.
Make com.sys (or pscom.sys) is loaded
add /p:1 to the uniaud32 driver line in config.sys
reboot

this is something my VirtualBox prevent me doing.
If I enable Serial Port Com 1 in "file Raw" mode , and set a local folder on my host , then VM machine won't boot : "VERR_ACCESS_DENIED" on folder (it's my Public Document folder on Windows)

Sorry, I have NFI about Virtualbox ona a Windows host... Works a treat on Ubuntu :)

ok I have same OS2 VM Ubuntu hosted too, I'll try that later on, the fact is that my "OS2 VM for testing" is on Windows.
Thank you

Hi Mauro!

Back in March, after going through 46 pages of posts, I put together a Testing Guide for my own use, as a quick reference source.

I spruced it up a bit today and have attached it below - hope you will find it of some use.

If anyone has any comments related to the guide, let me know and I will update it.

Best!

Hi Paul, the uniaud drivers installation is a task I left undone last year (Warp 4.52 on Virtualbox) since I could not obtain sound from video streaming on browser (ie. youtube), which is still my actual issue in soundblaster mode as well. Following these latest posts I feel I could try again now. Where can I find an installation steps how-to, like config.sys editing?
Thank you

Actually, here it is a SMS if using a new device. I had one SMS when I first used the app password, basically asking if it was me logging in.

confirm this is my case as well. Received a phone SMS only once on my phone number at the registration moment to confirm the user identity, after that I could simply login by SM mail everytime with the application password (needless to digit, it is stored) , nothing else.

from my side I can tell that after having created the app password in Gmail settings, Seamonkey mailer handles Gmail account access by this password (stored in the preferences) with no autentication problems, both receiving/sendings.

better explain: when write "no autentication problems" means that autentication is well working  (while it could also be misunderstood as giving issues of no-autentication)

Mail-News / tip for running Seamonkey Email window standalone
« on: June 03, 2022, 06:10:09 pm »
Hi, believe many of you already know this feature, I discovered it myself and find somehow useful to be shared here.
There's a way to open a Seamonkey email instance window directly like a standalone email client with no need to begin from the browser window.
Running the command
seamonkey -mail
from inside the seamonkey working directory will do the job.
At this point I can set a .cmd script file containing such command to be executed with a mouse doubleclick.
And, of course, creating its shadow copy on the desktop and choosing the proper icon for it, will provide an immediate application handling, separating email from the browser one, both available when wanted.
