Applications / A button to set window to ideal size
« on: October 12, 2018, 02:41:20 pm »
A feature that might be usefully if added would be a titlebar enhancement.

This feature is found in FM/2.  FM/2 adds a fourth title bar  button.  This feature is useful when using multiple desktops or is one does not want full screen. The button sets the FM/2 window to an ideal size.  When opening programs in multiple desktops, sometimes a program opens in two desktops.   If this happens when using FM/2, just click the button and it is moved and ideally sized in that desktop.  Or programmers could add this feature to their programs.  FM/2 source is found at Netlabs.  It could possible be a feature added to XWP.

ArcaOS 5.02

Like to look at exe and dll using pmdll.

Here is something interesting.  If I go into d:\sys\apps\amouse

and drop the "nbaudio.dll onto the PMDll icon, error messages are shown for three dlls.  I have attached the pics.

The three dlls with error messages are:

nbaudio.dll
mciapi.dll
mmio.dll

Applications / eco essentials
« on: March 27, 2018, 10:05:08 pm »
I have trouble formattitng every one of the new USB drives I have recently bought.   I could not get  could them formatted.

I then found eCo Essentials with its USB stick format utility.  This  program works great.  It makes it easy to format an USB drive.  Essentials also comes with some other utilities.  These other utilities  look for the "PCI.exe" where it would be located on eComstation.  To make them work,  I just make the directories to where it expects to fine the files.  I then copied the

sys\install\detect\pci.exe

and other files to the

to the newly created directories

ecs\install\detetei

These now work great.  This utility was well worth my $20 dollars.  I can't thank the developers enough and am well pleased.  My usb drives were useless with ArcaOS until I found this jewel.

Applications / Curious about these old patches
« on: March 05, 2018, 06:20:43 am »
These are some patches I have used in the past.  Are any of these still relevant for ArcaOS?

1. http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/download/pub/os2/system/patches/PMFIX.zip

FIX1: SYS3171 (Stack Overflow) on PMSHELL.EXE and others. FIX2: USING PM_SystemFonts->DefaultFont CHANGES ALL FORM SIZES

2. http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/download/pub/os2/system/patches/mixed/pipepatch.zip

This patch will increase the pipe buffer size of pipes instantiated with the pipe operator | of CMD.EXE from 512 bytes to 65024 bytes (by default). This will significantly improove the throughput and reduce the CPU load. In fact it reduces the minimum number of task swiches per megabyte from 4096 to about 33.

3. http://ca-arnold.de/download/newcalls104.zip

patch for pmmerge.dll to increase performance of writing INI-files.

4.http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/download/pub/os2/util/system/cpuspeed1.4.zip

Tries to keep the CPU as cool as possible without affecting system performance by adaptive throttling using ACPI 2.0. Version 1.4.

Applications / VLC problems - was Open Office 4.1
« on: February 16, 2018, 03:42:57 pm »
Still no go.   I have updated everything that can be updated.  As far as I can see, I have everything needed.  I am going back to version 3.2.

Something else.  I downloaded VLC3.0.  This does not work also.  Hoewver, VLC2.8 worked just great.  Has anyone else seen this?  I am going to have to go back to VLC2.8

Applications / Open Office 4.1
« on: February 13, 2018, 06:08:51 am »
I downloaded Open Office 4.1 after purchasing a development unit.  I had no problems installing. On opening any application, the application loads about half way and then I get an error message which I have uploaded.  Any idea why the program(s) won't finish loading?

Hardware / Limitation on using an USB DVD and CD writer under ArcaOS
« on: February 12, 2018, 09:28:12 am »
I took the ArcaOS 5.02 image, using DVD Toys, was able to easily burn the image onto a disk.  This was using an internal DVD writer.

I then tried it using my USB LG DVD writer.  DVD Toys could not find it.  However when I put a data disk into the drive, the drive is recognized easily by the operating system, however, with a blank disk in the USB drive, neither RJS CDWriter or DVD Toys was able to burn the image.

Is this a known issue, not being able to burn to an USB DVD or CD writer?

Hardware / Best FAT32 driver settings
« on: February 09, 2018, 06:10:11 pm »
I am presently using the fat32-0.10-r331-os2 driver with ArcaOS and I have the following settings in my config.sys.

ifs=D:\OS2\BOOT\fat32.ifs /cache:2048 /h /q /ac:* /largefiles
call=D:\OS2\cachef32.exe /f /p:2 /m:50000 /b:250 /d:5000

I have plenty of hard drive space and 4 GB of RAM.

I want the fastest access to my FAT32 partition possible.  Can reading the drive be speed up by changing my IFS and Call statements and if so, to what?

Right now it takes approximately 40 seconds to bring up all the files on the drive.  Under Windows, it is almost instantaneous.  This drive contains a lot of graphics.  It has slowed Windows down to a few seconds to access.  This is a 34.4 GB drive with 23.4 GB used

Any suggestions?  Thanks!

Mail-News / Is PMMail still being maintained?
« on: January 11, 2018, 07:27:14 am »
Is PMMail still be developed?  If so, can someone tell me what size bitmaps are built into the mailer?  I may take a stab at updating the bitmaps if I can find time.  No promises, but if it is still being maintained, it would be worth while to try to update the graphics.

Applications / Is REXX in all its versions still heavily used.
« on: January 09, 2018, 08:09:12 am »
I found this web page mentioning Object Rexx, NetRexx, and others.  Their various downloads, are they platform specific?  I never hear them mentioned like they were in years past.

Applications / Mouse Pointers
« on: January 09, 2018, 07:51:11 am »
I make this set of mouse pointers a few years ago.  I revised and made them bigger since I am using a small notebook.  I think some people will like this set.  It is different.  It has now become my standard mouse pointer.

I would have liked to have made them even bigger.  However, ArcaOS limits the size to 32x32.  I tried 40x40 and it doesn't work correctly at 40x40.  It reverts to 32x32.

Applications / Desktop Backgrounds
« on: January 08, 2018, 08:21:42 am »
I know ArcaOS can use BMPs, JPGs, and PNGs as backgrounds.  I would like to convert my bmps to PNGs.  I don't like JPGs because the file size is much bigger.  Is there anything I need to be concerned with?  I have used PNGs and have not encountered any problems.

Applications / New Styler titlebar bitmaps
« on: January 08, 2018, 08:09:28 am »
I created these a few years ago for eStyler.  However, I don't recall ever putting all them together.  So I packaged them and uploaded.  Just copy to you sys\apps\styler\bitmaps\tnkgronds directory.  Discard the ones you don't like or think you will never use.
