Hardware / Re: usbdrv233

About file sizes: the files are usually compressed by the linker (with a somewhat lousy compression scheme that the linker applies. These compression schemes exist since OS/2 2.x times).
That said, if you don't have major changes in a file, the file might not change in size.
File sizes are not reliable and do not "tell the whole truth".

Hardware / Re: usbdrv233
« on: March 25, 2020, 03:14:12 pm »
I installed usbdrv233 and rebooted and noticed I no longer had access to my removable USB drives.  The clue was the "an removable media monitor" disappeared.  This has happened before.  The problem is the new usbcalls.dll.  When I copy ver 3.32 usbcalls.dll over the 3.33 version and reboot, the removable media monitor is back and my usb drives are recognized.

This cannot be the reason. I also use the removable media monitor together will all of the USB 10.233 USB stack and it works without a problem. By the way: the "removable media monitor" does not make use of USBCALLS.DLL and USBRESMG.SYS at all. It directly cooperates with USBMSD.ADD. So what you might want to try is to keep USBCALLS.DLL and instead backlevel USBMSD.ADD and see if THAT is the problem.

Edit: in 10.233, usbcalls.dll is UNCHANGED (except for the version number) compared to 10.232.

I only see this error if I try to connect from my OS/2 guest and the Windows host at the same time (in an act of desperation, placing the files in a shared folder) which is ok and can be expected. But I have these data transfer problems even with only one FTP client connected.

The failure is intermittent. It would attempt to upload usbdrv223.txt but it failed half way. Likewise it will hang when displaying directory content in a FTP client and eventually get it done. It's completely unstable. I never had these problems in the past and it's not a question of some server script failing.

I cannot even properly download 2 files (the binary and the text file). It always fails along the way and I cannot rename or remove the broken files. What a lousy piece of sh*t. Nothing works anymore. And it used to work without a problem.

Internet / Re: Any updates on the Falcon QT browser?
« on: March 04, 2020, 08:47:41 am »
Is "Chromium" (mostly) the equivalent to "the Falkon browser" or is this yet another engine/component to port before the browser itself can be ported?
Plus, libraries might need to be extended/fixed that already exist which is also mentioned. That will also take some time which should not be underestimated.

General Discussion / How to upload to Hobbes pub/incoming
« on: March 01, 2020, 03:26:35 pm »
Anyone know what is wrong with Hobbes ? I cannot upload to pub/incoming and I also can neither delete nor rename files that I downloaded but resulted in zero filelength.
Who to turn to ? How to rename or delete files that are now in the way ?

Web applications / Re: FF 45.x and VIRTUALADDRESSLIMIT setting...
« on: February 25, 2020, 07:45:49 pm »
I only remember that I read on some gamers forum that Bulldozer even performs slightly better with only one core per unit active. In practice I can say that using 4 cores instead of 8 on my Bulldozer type of CPU makes close to no difference (Windows is busy rotating the hard disk and OS/2 is busy on choking and scheduling on that many cores).
That tells you how insanely good the AMD marketing is.

Have you ever tried to reduce your number of cores to one core per package/unit ? The BIOS should allow this and I would expect that fixes your stability problems. That will leave you with 3 cores which is no loss, really. At least the Bulldozer architecture is offering miserable performance gain from the "hyperthreading" (AMD names this differently but it is the same thing). There are just too many HW components being shared amongst two cores of a common package/unit or whatever they call it.

You might be interested in the results I get from my AMD Ryzen box.  Sorry it is split but I only have a 1920x1200 monitor.

Thanks! It’s a little strange for me that at least the manufacturer has not determined on a USB mouse and keyboard. Check if the usb.ids file is in the %etc% directory?

It would be interesting to see the results under OS/4. There, the picture with your PCI bridges will be much clearer and more logical.
That might be a misunderstanding. My USB keyboard and mouse drivers will try and query the string descriptor for the product and they will also add a device to the RM tree. If they fail, they will instead display that message. Therefore I assume that Ivan is using my driver set.
By the way: my USBMSD.ADD also adds a RM device for each USB stick/disk/floppy/cdrom attached.

Sound does not properly work with OS/2 as a guest.
This is true for SB16 as well as for USB audio adapters.
Every second or so,part of the sound is cut out, therefore it sounds really choppy.
It must be a bug in the audio emulation.
With USB audio, there is no problem with sound on a native OS/2 installation, I don't have SB16 HW.

One obswrvation:
The port and memory ranges are too big by one, that is,the highest port/memory address should be one less as it is now.
