Programming / Re: OpenDOC - Source Code

Thanks Roderick for the feedback.

I just remembered some Steve Jobs video, after his return to Apple, saying something about his decision for killing OpenDOC. Something like it does not fit on his strategy, like it was not relevant. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oeqPrUmVz-o

Trying to find which OS/2 apps we have with OpenDOC I just found that "TrueSpectra OpenDoc component", Some Lotus Components (not specified in detail), WebPainter and Mesa 2 (Spreadsheet).

This is the best source I found about OpenDOC on OS/2: http://www.edm2.com/index.php/OpenDoc

It seems that it never got relevant to OS/2.

Hi
1) DLL object type conversion
- reading that other thread you shared, it seems like this was a manual process that needed to be done for every new DLL, is that correct?
I did the manual process of converting the DLLs from "WPDataFile" to "XWPProgramFile" using Rich's newer OO and creating a CMD according to his suggestion. The .CMD only works for directories, maybe some more tweaking can be done in REXX to create something that change all files in subfolders.

Quote
DLL2Prog.CMD
------------------
oo /+
for %%1 in (*.dll) do oo /B %%1 XWPProgramFile
oo /-
------------------

But I have no idea how to have the same information for DLLs files.
I was able to also have the "Module" tab on the DLLs by using Rich's improved OO and the procedure from this forum thread.
I changed all the DLLs on C:\OS2\DLL to XWPProgramFile

Hello Dariusz

I think that XWPProgramFile Class (or is it some other WPS Class?) has already something implemented (See picture) on the "Module" tab. But I have no idea how to have the same information for DLLs files.
What it would be great too, it to have a way to Ctrl+C that information.

Programming / OpenDOC - Source Code
« on: April 27, 2024, 06:36:44 pm »
Hello.

There source code of OpenDOC released to the public with the intentions to be preserved.

I have zero experience with OpenDOC, as far as I know it was a framework created by Apple and with IBM and Microsoft they tried to turn it into a standard. I think it was close source and was discontinued on 1997.

I can not even list (or remember) one software that was created with OpenDOC on any of the platforms (OS/2, MacOS 7, Windows, or AIX). I guess all software created with OpenDOC was close source, so we can not even think on bringing some of that old software and port it to OS/2 today.

But on the bright side, I think it is interesting to keep releasing the source code of old software to the public for learning purposes or even some inspiration for something new.

If someone wants to chitchat and give some some insights, personal comments, opinions, it appreciated.

Hi Tellie
Hello Bernald,

Renaming dll is not a very good idea.
I did a quick QT5 port, had to disable OpenCV as i dont have it, this also means i had also disable Tiff and Raw.
I have a confusion here.
I run nomacs.exe on a machine that does not have Qt6, only Qt5 and it says:
"SYS1804: The system cannot find the file QT6CORE."
- Nomacs.exe has not Qt5 dependency.
- quazi140.dll is the one that has the Qt6 dependency.

It is that how you meant it to be ?  "quazi140.dll" does not compile on Qt5 ?

Hi TNG999

How does it works? Do you have to install the proxy on a Windows/Linux machine? or it some cloud service?

Hi Andi B.
I understand the problem for people with high resolution screen usually found in modern Notebooks. But I think it should be possible with current version to set all controls to the needed bigger fonts. This setting should survive restarts. I'm I right Martin?

If yes I think it's not high priority to invest much time in this and so there's nothing which I can do in near future. F.i. the (rare) crashes and some leak in currently unknown system resources are more important IMO.

I just wait on Martins response and if there is no real show stopper (f.i. some controls can't be changed to usable fonts) I'll create a ticket with all the valuable infos from Rich. Maybe some time someone finds the time to make a more elegant solution for that.
Like you said, this is not high priority. For me it is a "nice to have", it is not a bug. If there are no resources to do this, I think it is fine just to document it with a ticket.

Hello

At the end Nathan accepted the changes and now we have a directory for Win16 and a different one for Win32.

I would like to eventually populate that directories with software tested on Win-OS2 and Odin under ArcaOS, but I think I will request some help on a different thread.

For now, I think I'm done withe Hobbes directory structure, I don't see any other idea on this area.

I guess the strategy now will be to find and upload any OS/2 Freeware/Shareware/Open Source/Public files that may be missing on the site.

Any other suggestions for Hobbes Archive are welcome and I will check them out with Nathan.

Hi
Does this not work for your on one of the controls?

Though I for myself rarely had the need to change my fonts the last decade or so as I still use monitors with 94-105dpi (most of the time).
Yes, it works for me with the usual way of changing the fonts with "Font Palette". But In my case I would like to adjust the font size a little bit bigger. I would like to have something that saves me some time grabbing by default font size (as XWP shows as default), but I understand that it is not easy to implement for each component described in the Font settings of lcmd.

Thanks Andi B.

I had also uploaded it to HobbesArchive.com to have it as backup too.

Hello Andi B.

Thanks for updating Larsen Commander.

I was wondering if there can be some easy way to make Larsen Commander to get the default font and size from the XWorkplace 1.0.26 font settings, without breaking the great functionality that Larsen Commander has to select a font and size for each component.

But I recognize I don't have  a clear idea of how I want it to be shown on the configuration. I don't know if having a checkbox on each of the components saying "Use system default", but it may look to messy.

Hi Martin,

I think you are not thinking clearly.  Not everyone knows if a windows program is 16bit or 32bit so dividing up that way makes it harder for users to find something that might be useful.

Most people using computers today don't know the internal workings, to them it is just a tool to do a job or play a game.

Hi Ivan

When you start a message saying "you are not thinking clearly", even if it is your personal opinion, it blocks the perception of your interlocutor. I haven't made any value judgment of your way of thinking or personality in the past.

I think it is not as bad as you specify it. The directories have a text description of what it includes, and it is not a critical directory as /pub/os2.

What do you suggest?,  just don't splitting it and keep everything in /pub/widows ?

Thanks Mike.

I posted the idea on the "Warp Mailinglist" and Nathan decided to take a vote on it.
- https://warp.groups.io/g/main/topic/hobbes_archive_directories/105565793?p=,,,20,0,0,0::recentpostdate/sticky,,,20,2,0,105565793

It is not doing good. 7 for "I"'s (In Favor) and  13 for "Nay"'s (Not in favor)
People voting against it are not posting it directly, just a direct email to Nathan, so I don't know the reasons. I found it odd since it is a very insignificant change.
