Thanks Paul

I've also run highmem on \qt6\lib\* and \qt6\plugins\*

Does it means we no longer have to run highmen manually? or that we need to run highmen on both directories now?

Applications / Re: To .config or not .config
« on: January 29, 2023, 02:36:47 am »
Hi Dave

I asked the Dooble author and he told me he uses "$XDG_DATA_HOME" for the config files.

So, I was able to easy up my OCD with...
  SET XDG_DATA_HOME=C:\HOME\.config

With that the Dooble files, and I guess other Linux ported software that uses "XDG_DATA_HOME" will be now on my C:\HOME\.config

But now I see that also .pki is part of Dooble. I need to know where is the author pointing that.

Hi Dave, thanks for the feedback

SET XDG_CONFIG_HOME=C:\HOME\.config;
and
SET DOOBLE_HOME=C:\HOME\.config;

Both didn't help me to put the \.dooble inside \.config. It didn't work for me.

Hi

I get back to this subject in my mind everything I see my /Home directory. I personally prefer all the configuration of linux ported programs goes to .config.

For example, what can I say to the Dooble author so  things got stored on /Home/.config/.dooble ?
That he should adhere to use $XDG_CONFIG_HOME to store configuration files? And link him to something like https://specifications.freedesktop.org/basedir-spec/basedir-spec-latest.html

Hi

Maybe TNG999 got confused and disabled AHCI thinking it is not supported. Or he confused AHCI with UEFI. Everything has four letter these days.

Hi

I'm getting this "[Errno 256] No more mirrors to try" from ANPM today.  ANPM 1.0.7 and 1.1.0.

Any idea of what can it be the issue? Any server down?

Applications / Re: Update of ScummVM possible?
« on: January 28, 2023, 04:53:35 pm »
Hi

I rearranged the files in the most easy way possible. (picture attached)

I was able to run ScummVM
- WARNING: initWithU32String: Fribidi not available, will use input strings as fallback.!
- The GUI takes time to load here.
- I downloaded the game Drascula and run it. It took some time to load.  It runs with audio, music is missing from the game. Nice game intro.
- I had played Drascula a little bit in window mode and works fine clicking the screen.
- Full screen mode (Alt+Enter) works, but click and movement is slow (choppy)
- On normal exit it will crash and generate the exceptq file.

You can test these free games: https://www.scummvm.org/games/

Too bad gotcha can not capture the game screen :)

Hi TNG999

Thanks for the information. I will include your hardware on the wiki. But I will really appreciate is if you can generate the pci.exe report on each machine, so I can include that detail on the wiki.

I have this article that will tech you how to use it: "Extracting Hardware Information from ArcaOS and OS/2"

Those reports gave me more detail if the hardware components you are running so I can create a page like this one: Lenovo Thinkpad L420

Test version of the upcoming scummvm 2.7.... https://smedley.id.au/tmp/scummvm-2.7.0-20230127.zip

Hi Paul

Which is the correct location of the share path? I'm getting:
Quote
WARNING: You are missing a valid 'translations.dat' file. GUI translation will n
ot be available!
WARNING: generateZipSet: Could not find 'gui-icons.dat'!
WARNING: Could not find theme 'scummremastered' falling back to builtin!
WARNING: initWithU32String: Fribidi not available, will use input strings as fal

I had tried different locations of the /share and I can not remove this errors.

Hi TNG999

I do not do software programming, but I tested the compiling procedure and wrote this little article to compile some little PM samples with GCC.
"Compiling "OS/2 Presentation Manager Programming" Samples on 2016

From that I tried to compile some other things, with more elaborated "make files", which are text files to script the procedure to compile more complex things (with linked libraries and DLLs).
I went over it on this forum thread.

What is next on my personal "programming wishlist" is to make some time to compile a simple Qt game like Hexalate.

@Martin - I'm wondering if we need a new thread 'Testing Qt6' with a 'sticky' first post that has the latest links/tips for testing Qt6?  This thread (in the programming section) could then be for anyone suggesting fixes, wanting to build, etc.

Hi Paul. I agree with you.  I created a new thread called "Qt6 Application Testing".

Thanks Martin - can I ask that you edit the 1st post as required to include latest builds?

Sure, let me know the links and I will change it.

Up to date blocklist can be generated from this URL,
https://pgl.yoyo.org/adservers/serverlist.php?hostformat=nohtml&showintro=0&mimetype=plaintext
Save and import. Especially important at this stage of development as some ads have crappy JavaScript and/or certificates that crashes the browser.

Note to self: The blocklist goes on "Tools => Accepted / Blocked Domains.".

Hello

This is a thread to test Paul's Qt6 port and Qt6 bases applications.

For the moment we have this test releases:
Quote
- Qt6 libs - https://www.dropbox.com/s/qax8lg7txx04s81/qt6-6.2.4-os2-20230129.zip?dl=0
- qos2 Scale Fix - https://smedley.id.au/tmp/qt6-6.2.4-qos2-20230130.zip
- Dooble   -  https://smedley.id.au/tmp/dooble-2023.01.18-os2-qt6-20230121.zip

I have this optional procedure to test Dooble:
Quote
Procedure
- VIRTUALADDRESSLIMIT=2560 on Config.sys
- Deleted .doodle on Home
Then:
 set EXCEPTQ=ZZ
 set PATH=C:\qt6\bin;%PATH%
 set BEGINLIBPATH=c:\qt6\lib
 dooble --disable-gpu
But some other procedures may apply, and different suggestions are welcome.

We also have this Qt6 ported applications to test from Tellie:
Quote
simsu-1.4.2-qt6.7z
peg-e-1.3.2-qt6.7z
novprog-3.2.2-qt6.7z
kapow-1.6.1-qt6.7z
hexalate-1.2.2-qt6.7z
gottet-1.2.2-qt6.7z
cutemaze-1.3.2-qt6.7z
tanglet-1.6.3-qt6.7z
connectagram-1.3.3-qt6.7z
focuswriter-1.8.4-qt6.7z
You can download from : http://rpm.netlabs.org/test/QT6/

Let me know if there are any other Qt6 applications around that we can test.

Remember you can show your appreciation to Paul at:

Comments, Suggestions & Questions / Re: Hobbes (Files) Reoganization
« on: January 22, 2023, 04:19:01 pm »
Hi

Today I got this doubt on where should hobbes kept the "Pre-recorded Demos for products". Those are recorded demos, that is an executable that shows you some multimedia presentation, it may have sound and allow you to make some clicks, but it is not a working demo or a product.

Currently I have those at "/pub/os2/games/toys", which I don't think it is the best place.
The files are: OS2WarpDemo_1995-02-28.zip, WordPerfect_5-2_Demo.zip.

On the DOS files I preferred to move them out of "games" and have those on "/pub/dos/apps/toys".

What do you think?
