1- Check if the BIOS has UEFI legacy mode available. You will need put UEFI on Legacy mode if you want OS/2-eCS to boot.

2- I recommend that the machine has V-TX .. or AMD-V, in case you want to run VM's (for example OS/2 as guest on Windows host).

Point 1 HP specifications watching, I see nothing. So it would have to start the bios to see it.

Point 2, If you mean to run a virtual machine, I prefer to install the airboot and install complete systems.

greetings and thanks for your answer

Don't install eCS 2.2, it's better to wait a release from Arca Noae.
I saw, at least:
* memory bugs in Panorama (fixed now),
* more that one JFS partitions decreases performance,
* USB drivers should be updated to the latest version by Lars Erdmann,
* network doesn't compatible with our local provider (so I switched to SafeFire PPP),
etc. etc. etc. etc.
I do not mean that you install the Ecs22-betaxxx. What I mean is that if I take the CD to the store, with ecs22 and bring it into the laptop can try to start an installation. With new ACPI I have more possibilities, with ecs21. (from experience)
But if you would have a cd with ecs22 boot in demo mode, and you can run a test program sound, wifi, etc .. I know before buying if I gain or not.
saludos and thanks by info.

Hardware / Which buy a new laptop? for 2016
« on: January 13, 2016, 01:50:21 pm »

I wanted to see what will be the current best laptop for use with win7 and OS2.
Now they are almost all 64 bits, this will be a problem?
Better AMD or Intel?
I remember the last thing I bought was an ASUS has worked very well so far, but I fail some keys now. And I remember that when I bought the laptop take a bootable CD which to my friend Alfredo, and check that it worked with OS2. I only fault the sound that I never worked,in os2.
It could not make a bootable demo ECS22 that start and perform a test before buying equipment to verify correct operation of the parties such as network, sound, wifi, and of course the screen.
I understand that the hard disk will not be problem with the Dfsee.

I am also of the opinion that the dbexpert is a simple and powerful application. I have more than 2MB of commercial application and is the main reason why still use OS2. A part of or through the REXX.
It would be great to know that the Dbexpert would have continuity, although I have not been able to find new bugs, after version 2.0.9. :)

I have not used this printer ever, but if laser and PostScript3 have no problem importing the file corresponding to the current system configuration from linux or windows. Here if I can help you, if you decide to buy it.

I have not so clear is the use of the scanner, but by what it says:
HP Scanning software, Scan key on touchscreen for Scan-to-USB flash drive (PDF and JPEG), Scan-to-Email, Scan-to-folder, 50-sheet Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) for unattended scanning of multiple pages, automatic scan calibration, cropping and image enhancement

Brother in teams usually have an option that is scan to FTP, and I have worked very well. By installing an FTP server on Peter Moylan OS2, and share that folder with all users is an excellent solution without any other software.
In HP equipment, tend to offer scan to mail, but in this case you will not say how to use it. If you decide to buy it and you can use the scanner in a manner appropriate to comment because I too interested.
Lately I'm discarding hp teams, for this reason.

Storage / Re: Share a 2TB USB drive between Windows and OS/2?
« on: December 18, 2015, 09:19:57 am »
I with 2tb usb disk, create a single FAT32 volume Dfsee apparently all ok. The first backup from OS2, all ok. In the second backup I stood in a strange way. And when you try to do a chkdsk to external USB, it gave me a trap laptop, I lost partition tables but not from the external drive, in the notebook. Finally I could get it all on the laptop, USB drive and leave it as a single volume in JFS. The proposed Doug Bisset think is the best.

I excluded when an application fails, the message that if you want to close the application, with one option. And instead to install the system separately or with a call to top.exe killer or similar program.

I do not agree with you. I'm using OS2 for over 25 years, and I can assure you with OS2've saved my money to small business.
We recently added some Windows computers, and windows, there are other problems. You have to change teams often fall because of insufficient performance, some programs stop working from one version to another. Other programs win, bitches are updated annually shows that if we pay them, the system slows to a stop.
For me the main problem is the lack of applications OS2. You can have the best system in the world, but if you do'n have applications you can do with it.?
Formerly it was said that the future was java, today is a java seen that this is a disaster. With new versions almost every day, impossible to have them updated on all systems.
Perhaps the future passes through Q4, or the portability of the Linux world. This time will tell.

But for me the great success of the OS2 to the REXX been. The programs are based on REXX, have the advantage that each program is not entirely independent, you can do with a few lines of rexx, talk to each other, to understand each other and do things together as if they were a single Super App. Dbexpert, Mesa, Truespectra.

If the two files are text. But in the OS2 pressing the Enter key is formed by two hexadecimal characters are 0d 0a
In Linux, each line ends with 0a and the last line with 0a 0a

Hi
Lucide is workin ok. The problem was in the ppd file, I take the Windows driver ppd Spanish = error.
But Linux download the ppd file in English worked to perfect. I think the problem was not the language, but by the ppd file itself.

Using the Linux ppd:
1- Download from the manufacturer's website.
2- Unzip with Zippy four clicks
http://www.ecomstation.ru/projects/zippy/?action=down

(Linux users are very rare, rpm, cpio, gz, zip)
3-editing with a hex editor as FlexEdit, and change the line ending character 0d 0a 0a for all lines, attention to the last line.
4- I modified the driver name to distinguish it from other like this, but this is not necessary.
  East :
* ShortNickName: "Xerox Phaser 6500N"
For this:
* ShortNickName: "Xerox Phaser 6500Nlinux"
To rename it to the right will come out in the same order in the list of printers.
5- Import the new file  and everything is working. I forgot the default values had changed because they were not my printer. The latter did after having installed in properties - driver-- select your printer driver. These values were memory, box-type, hard disk etc. Save and go.

Hardware / Re: Anyone successfully using Brother HL-5470dw?
« on: December 05, 2015, 06:24:18 pm »

Care to elaborate more on this?
First of all, thank you very much for your great work.
I can not say that cups in the future will not be necessary. But as a user, if I can choose to use cups, or using its own driver OS2, I prefer to use the OS2 driver.
Formerly a laser color printer with PostScript 3, cost 3000 euros, now less than 300 euros.
I have used in my cups work with inkjet, since the beginning of cups, and provided only 3 teams, I have come to hate. For hours I had to spend to make it work. And calls from users complaining that not print me. Usually the problem was not cups, was the user and the peculiarities of cups.

If the printer supports PostScript 3, you can search the file printer drivers either Windows or Linux. Looking for the xxxxxxx.PPD file. With this file you move to your OS2, and the utility to import driver Alex, you can have a proper driver for your printer the OS2. That will allow you to use all the features of your printer.
This is true for any manufacturer, HP, Xerox, etc. not only for Brother.
I have come to hate cups, although work.
If you need assistance in the import, question.

Applications / Re: OSS Project ideas for OS2VOICE
« on: December 03, 2015, 05:35:54 pm »
Well, from my point of view it is completely different, so the question I would do it because OS2 users sometimes use another operating system?

The Tame2 program is good, but in the future I will not be necessary, most current scanners have the option of sending it to FTP. I have an FTP server installed both at work and at home and step scaner documents directly to FTP server without any software.

I think these are some programs to bear.
I have to boot windows to draw in 2D. or 3D.Many users printing in 3D, using these programs.
I liked the Qcad 2D and  the OpenSCAD in 3D. I'm using the BlueCad, since its inception, but it is very outdated.

Much depends on whether the new idea will be to maintain OS2 users, or if you want to attract new users. For new users to attract more applications are needed.
